Alberta Canada reports its first cases of bird flu in 2026

Two commercial poultry flocks in the Canadian province of Alberta have been struck by highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). 
According to information on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) website, both incidences were confirmed on May 11. One of those cases was confirmed in Strathcona County, while the other was confirmed in Special Area No. 4.CFIA did not share information concerning what type of commercial poultry flocks were involved or the number of birds in either flock.
