Keeping tabs on authors in LINKcat: Lesley Hazleton

Lesley Hazleton, a British-born, secular Jewish psychologist turned journalist and author, whose curiosity about faith and religion led her to write biographies of Muhammad, Mary and Jezebel and examine her own passions in books about agnosticism and automobiles, died on April 29 at her home, a houseboat in Seattle. She was 78.
Ms. Hazleton announced her death herself, in an email that she scheduled to be sent to friends after she died. She had been diagnosed with terminal kidney cancer and chose to take her own life, as Washington State’s Death with Dignity Act allowed her to do legally, with the assistance of hospice volunteers.

GET ME REWRITE: MAGA Team Drool pays Trump's legal bills

HeadlineBrennan Center for Justice, 5/10/2024
Since leaving office, former president Trump has been involved in an array of criminal and civil litigation — some that relates to his campaigns and presidency and some that does not. To cover the enormous legal bills, estimated at more than $100 million, he has turned to his political action committees (PACs), essentially having campaign donors pay costs for which he would otherwise be on the hook personally.
A lot of this spending falls into legal gray areas, but thanks to loopholes in the law and lackluster enforcement, it is likely to continue until Congress takes steps to shore up existing rules and enact broader campaign finance safeguards.

“It has been a tremendous honor serving the 6oth District and I will truly miss the communities of Port Washington, Cedarburg, Jackson and Trenton but I look forward to representing the 59th and meeting all the new constituents that have been added to my district,” said Brooks.
Brooks said he looks forward to bringing his proven record of conservative leadership to the 59th district and commits to representing their interest in Madison not that of special interest groups or party leadership.

Wisconsin 2024 elections: 4 candidates are running for an open seat in the 12th Assembly District

La Keshia Myers (D-Milwaukee) has represented the 52th Assembly District since January 2019, who is running to replace Lena Taylor in the Senate. Taylor was recently appointed a judge on the Milwaukee County Circuit Court.

So far 4 candidates have announced:  Gregory Canady (R-Milwaukee), Brandon Williford (D-Milwaukee), Russell Goodwin (D-Milwaukee), Deanna Alexander (I-Milwaukee)

WisPolitics rates the district as 79.4% Democratic.

Maps:  Wikipedia
Headline: Urban Milwaukee, 5/10/2024
The last time Alexander and Goodwin Sr. faced off they were both write-in candidates running for District 18 on the Milwaukee County Board. In 2022, Goodwin was the incumbent in the district, but failed to gather enough nomination signatures to have his name on the ballot. This set off a mad dash for the seat with seven candidates — including Alexander and Goodwin — all running as write-in candidates.
Alexander came out on top, and during the spring 2024 non-partisan election, she defended her seat against challenger Brandon Williford, an organizer with Citizen Action Wisconsin.
Goodwin is running as a Democrat. Alexander, a conservative, is running as an independent. Under state law, independent candidates do not appear on partisan primary ballots and instead go straight to the general election.

Day 1290 of GOP election denier hysteria (Trump Big Lie Clown Show Circus, MAGA Missouri edition)

GOP fussin', feudin' & fightin' in Vernon County, Missouri

attack of the clown show zombies
Starring Vernon County GOP chairwoman
Cyndia Haggard
Headline: Kansas City Star 5/9/2024
It began in March, when the Vernon County Republican Committee, led by chairwoman Cyndia Haggard, filed suit against the Vernon county clerk, who is also a Republican.
Haggard is a self-described pro-Trump, MAGA Republican who continues to assert that the 2020 election was “100%” stolen, a contention proven false. She is a passionate proponent of candidate vetting to weed out RINOs — Republicans in name only.

Vernon County is part of Trump's America
