Dear Esther Cepeda, That's not branding. It's dog whistle politics. Please call it what it is. Best, Retiring Guy

"Branding" is a normalizing word.

Republicans, unlike Democrats, are good at branding.
Conservatives’ main message now is simple: “Make America Great Again.”\
Translation: America was “Great” when women, people of color and poor people stayed in their place, didn’t complain too much and didn’t “demand” livable wages, access to equal opportunity employment and affordable housing.  (Retiring Guy is in complete agreement with your translation.)

Dear Isabella County supervisor Christy Mathewson, You are a fucking COVIDIOT. Best, Retiring Guy

Isabella County is on fire again with the virus.

New York Times

Isabella County has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the state.

Bridge Michigan, 11/16/2021
Likewise, officials in Broomfield Township did not think the $146,431 in available stimulus funds was needed locally, said Christy Mathewson, supervisor of the Isabella County community of fewer than 1,400 residents. “
We don't have sewer and water. We don't have fire or rescue type funding for that respect, or telecommunication type stuff,” he said, telling Bridge MIchigan the federal dollars were equivalent to roughly 50 percent of the local budget.
The pandemic had a “minimal” impact on Broomfield Township finances, Mathewson added, so “we opted out of (the stimulus funding) and let it go to the other townships that can use it.”

The county's public health department certainly takes a blase approach.

A peek inside the front doors.

Used to have an imposing statue of a horse at the entrance.

The building has been empty for nearly 3 years.

A notice from the company to the state's Department of Workforce Development called the closure unexpected, adding that "unforeseen natural circumstances" were involved, specifically damage from flooding caused by the recent storms. The chain restaurant at 2237 Deming Way closed Saturday, affecting 36 employees, the notice said. Alex Weis, executive vice president for Livesey Company, the development company that owns the property, said Livesey was already in lease discussions with P.F. Chang's, which originally opened in early 2006.

Dear Cambria Township (Michigan) supervisor, You're a fucking COVIDIOT. Best, Retiring Guy

Hillsdale County is on fire again with the virus.

New York Times

And it's vaccination rate is the lowest in the state.

Bridge Michigan, 11/16/2021
“‘I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.’ Those are the scariest words you could hear,” said Cambria Township Supervisor Glenn Frobel, channeling former President Ronald Reagan’s rallying cry for limited government.
In a brief phone call with Bridge, Frobel declined to discuss the community’s specific rationale for rejecting $259,787 in federal stimulus funds. But he called it an “obvious” decision by officials in the Hillsdale County community, which is home to fewer than 2,500 residents.

Dear Houghton County Michigan supervisor Mary Sears, You're a fucking COVIDIOT. Best, Retiring Guy

Houghton County's vaccination rate is 5 percentage points below the state average of 54%.

Bridge Michigan, 11/16/2021
In the Upper Peninsula’s Houghton County, officials in Franklin Township voted unanimously to decline $146,431 in stimulus funding — and it wasn’t a hard decision, Supervisor Mary Sears told Bridge Michigan. “
There's too many things you have to comply with in order to accept that money, and we don't need it,” she said. “It's not like it's life and death for us, you know?”

Will the real Mary Sears please stand up.

Meet the real Mary Sears.  A crackpot through and through.

      Twitter (highlights added)

Heaven forbid anyone mentions GOP intransigence and obstructionism.

      Intransigence.  It's a long-running show.

      Washington Post, 7/1/2013
What’s missing in the Republican Party is that willingness to compromise for anything, even if it benefits the particular interests of individual lawmakers or the interests of the party writ large. And this seems to stem from an attitude that emerged during the 1994 elections and has only grown since—the idea that conservatives aren’t just opposed to liberals but that they’re at war with liberalism. It’s why Republicans have dismantled key norms governing Congress and other institutions (see: the filibuster and the 60-vote Senate), and have taken to opposing everything associated with the Democratic White House. If immigration has a chance, it’s because it isn’t identified with President Obama. And insofar that individual Republicans see it as such, they tend to be opposed.

      Obstructionism.  Ditto.

      People's World, 3/5/2021
They have made a conscious decision to oppose all of this progress and to engage in a multi-layered strategy of attacks on all Democratic plans, a racist campaign to “save” American culture which they say is under attack, a plan to pose as the new “working-class party” protecting us all from liberal elites, a plan to continue pushing the notion that the election was stolen from the people, and a plan to top it all off with a healthy dose of voter suppression.
