Dear Gary, What fucking planet do you live on? Best, Retiring Guy

Top headline San Jose Mercury-News (10/28/2021)

“I don’t place all the blame on him, but I think that, as a president, as a commander-in-chief, I think he could be doing a lot more to get people on board with his plan,” said Gary Hines, 65, a Democratic voter from Philadelphia who emphasized he supports the various elements of Biden’s plan, from expanding the number of people with health insurance, to making child care more affordable, to doing more to curb climate change.  [emphasis added]

And it's no April fool.

Electing more Republicans won't get you any of this.

GET ME REWRITE: Batshit crazy Missouri Republican Mark McCloskey is running (1) for U.S. Senate (2) his mouth

Joplin Globe, 10/27/2021

Yes, that batshit crazy Mark McClosky.
McCloskey, a St. Louis personal injury lawyer who gained national attention after he and his wife waved guns at racial injustice protesters last summer, made the remarks last week at a forum in Osage Beach in response to a woman who said some candidates who profess to be anti-abortion would allow the procedure in some cases.

Retiring Guy recently obtained a copy of Mark's initial draft of his candidacy statement.

Dear New York Times, $1.09 for a can of pumpkin pie filling is not a 'wallop'. Best, Retiring Guy

Panic buying:  From toilet paper to pumpkin pie filling.
Thanksgiving 2021 could be the most expensive meal in the history of the holiday.
Caroline Hoffman is already stashing canned pumpkin in the kitchen of her Chicago apartment when she finds some for under a dollar. She recently spent almost $2 more for the vanilla she’ll need to bake pumpkin bread and other desserts for the various Friendsgiving celebrations she’s been invited to.

And it's not as though the shelves are bare.

GET ME REWRITE: What happens when racists gain power on school boards across the country

Yahoo News, 10/20/2021
WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Waukesha School District believes in diversity and values individual differences, according to its mission statement. But new rules against classroom displays suggest otherwise, teachers say.
Decorations signaling inclusion and acceptance are now forbidden. LGBTQ+ signs, rainbow flags, Black Lives Matter posters and "safe space" signs are off-limits because they're political and encourage advocacy, the suburban Milwaukee district told teachers this fall. Nationwide, other districts have followed suit – particularly those led by conservative boards.

Related reading:
While the city of Waukesha offers affordable housing, other more affluent parts of Waukesha County are a different story. Kori Schneider Peragine, who works for the Metropolitan Milwaukee Fair Housing Council, says there’s a long held theory about people who fled Milwaukee decades ago.
“Communities that were sort of the recipients from white flight back in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s have more opposition to any potential diversity or affordable housing coming into their communities,” she says.
The fair housing council recently settled a discrimination complaint against Waukesha County after alleging that it is not providing enough affordable housing, thus locking out minorities.

In 1922, his third year on the baby names chart, Daryl looked as though he was on a rocket to the big time.  But his jets quickly lost their propulsion.  He ended up spending 22 years in the top 200 (1951-1972), peaking at #161 in 1970.   His decline in popularity accelerated after 1985.  Ten years later, he dropped off the chart.
