Roy Graber reports:
With this HPAI case, Sturgeon County becomes the fourth county in Alberta to have a flock affected. The presence of HPAI was confirmed in flocks in Beaver and Strathcona counties on September 8, and another in Minburn County on September 10.
CFIA has not disclosed further information on any of these cases regarding flock size or the type of poultry involved.
So far, Alberta has been the only province to have confirmed cases of HPAI in commercial poultry since May. However, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) reported that the virus has been confirmed in wild birds recently not only in Alberta, but also in British Columbia and the Northwest Territories.
