Bird flu wipes out 850,000 egg-laying hens in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reported that the situation in Pennsylvania was confirmed on March 17. The affected flock included 870,000 laying hens in Lancaster County. 
Pennsylvania has now had 17 commercial poultry flocks struck by HPAI so far in 2026, with all but one of those in Lancaster County. The other involved a flock of 70,000 laying hens in Dauphin County.
