Trump endorses Florida man and son-in-law of Sean Doofus for Wisconsin's 7th CD

Headline:  Up North News, 1/28/2026

Pat Kreitlow reports:
If a son-in-law qualifies for the term “nepo-baby,” then voters up north have the option of electing their first one to congress, based on President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Michael Alfonso, the 25-year-old son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
Working against Alfonso, however, isn’t simply his youth and inexperience but also his voting history. Reports show he has an active voter record in Florida and cast a ballot there in the 2024 presidential election. He also reportedly has an inactive registration in Madison from his college days and an active registration record in Hayward, tied to the home of his wife’s parents, though he has never voted there. [emphasis added]
Despite the lack of active residency, employment, or political activity in the 7th Congressional District, Trump endorsed Alfonso in a social media post Tuesday night, which Alfonso quickly shared.

According to Merriam-Webster, the first known use of 'nepo baby' as in a person who gains success or opportunities through familial connections, occurred in 1992.

  1. arm candy
  2. buzzkill
  3. man cave

HeadlineThe Texas Tribune, 1/30/2026

Alejandro Serrano reports for The Texas Tribune:
Democrat and machinist union leader Taylor Rehmet won the special election Saturday to represent a solidly red Texas Senate district that President Donald Trump carried by 17 points in 2024, a stunning upset that injected a fresh and urgent sense of a panic into the GOP from the Texas Capitol to the White House heading into November’s midterm elections.
With ballots tallied from all but a handful of voting centers, Rehmet had 57% of the vote, besting the 43% for his GOP opponent, conservative activist Leigh Wambsganss, who vastly outspent Rehmet as Republicans including Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick mounted a furious funding push in a bid to tilt the election in their favor in the final days.
Patrick, the Senate’s powerful presiding officer, had raised alarm bells about the race and urged Republicans to turn out — as did Trump, who posted three separate get-out-the-vote messages on social media in the 48 hours preceding the election[emphasis added]

According to Merriam-Webster, the first known use of 'whomp' as a verb occurred in 1942.

Other coinages from the same year include:
  1. a-hole
  2. blockbuster
  3. Christian nationalist
  4. catbird seat
  5. eat up
  6. gung ho
  7. screaming meemies

CES 2026: Ruark R810 MiE Radiogram

Headline:  Gear Patrol, 1/30/2026

Tucker Bowe reports:
The Ruark R810 MiE is a special-edition version of the brand’s R810, an all-in-one wireless speaker released in 2023. Designed to celebrate the British hi-fi brand’s 40th anniversary, it’s part of its “Made in England” initiative, which specializes in premium versions of its existing components. The difference between the R810 MiE and the R810 is purely aesthetic. Ruark partnered with Storm Furniture, an artisan maker based in Norfolk (and a proud member of the Guild of Master Craftsmen), to hand-build the cabinet and grille components using a centuries-old art called “marquetry.” It comes in two finishes: Penta-Chord Walnut and Leaf-Line Oak. Only 50 of each — so, 100 total — will be made[emphasis added]

Return of the Bermuda Triangle -- to Wyoming, of all places

Headline:  Cowboy State Daily, 1/31/2026

Renee Jean reports:
Amazon officials told Cowboy State Daily they are investigating the situation and encouraged customers to call customer service if they are experiencing these difficulties, to better highlight that it’s a trend occurring.
Because Amazon handles hundreds of thousands of packages, it can be easy for such trends to hide but calls to customer service can help flag that there is a more widespread issue.
So far, normal customer service hasn’t been able to resolve the issue, Freitas said, but she is among customers who have called.
She’s lost 10 packages so far over the past three weeks, receiving only a couple of the multiple items she’s ordered.
“They all have the same messages, saying, ‘Sorry, your package is late,’” she said. “But they are still expecting them to arrive at such and such date.”
Most of the packages never arrive. Instead, Freitas eventually gets a message that advises her she can put in for a refund.
