Arkansas reports 1st case of bird flu in 2026

Headline:  WATT Poultry, 4/14/2026

Roy Graber reports:
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reported that the presence of the virus was confirmed April 10 in a flock of 191,200 commercial broilers in Clay County.
Prior to this, Arkansas’ last confirmed instance of HPAI in commercial poultry was confirmed in Drew County on December 29, 2025. In that situation, 19,400 commercial broiler breeders were affected. The state in January did have three non-commercial flocks struck by HPAI, but such infections in non-commercial birds should have no impact on international poultry trade, according to World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) rules.
In 2025, Arkansas had four commercial poultry flocks and five non-commercial flocks hit by HPAI.
