When autocrats rule, everyone suffers. Even birds.

Headline:  New York Times, 4/13/2022
In the spring of 1958, the Chinese government mobilized the entire nation to exterminate sparrows, which Mao declared pests that destroyed crops. All over China, people banged on pots and pans, lit firecrackers and waved flags to prevent the birds from landing so they would fall and die from exhaustion. By one estimation, nearly two billion sparrows were killed nationwide within months.
The near extinction of sparrows led to insect infestations, which ruined crops and contributed to the Great Famine, which starved tens of millions of Chinese to death in the next three years. [emphasis added]

Hovde, who lost in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in 2012, had previously said he was considering a gubernatorial run this year, but said he decided now was not the best time to launch a statewide campaign, due in part to recent health issues with his father-in-law.
"Family is the first thing in my life," Hovde said Friday. "It was a tough decision."

GET ME REWRITE: Presidential candidates love to talk to white people on the campaign trail

Boston Globe, 4/14/2022
It has been a truism for the past half-century: the American presidential campaign begins in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Potential presidential candidates look for excuses to visit either state years in advance. Few serious political staffers have reached the heights of American politics without working either state. Political reporters know the route between Portsmouth and Nashua almost as well as they know the way to their Washington, D.C., supermarket.  [emphasis added]

Need more evidence that our fucked-up presidential selection process need an overhaul?

Time to celebrate: That fading reality show otherwise known as the presidential debates is canceled

As it should have been a long time ago.  It's nothing more than a distraction.

Meet Tennessee Toastmaster Supreme Frank Niceley

Top headline: WPLN, 4/6/2022
Bottom headline: New Civil Rights Movement, 4/14/2022

NCRM excerpt:
“In 1910 Hitler decided to live on the streets for a while,” Niceley said. “So for two years Hitler lived on the streets and practiced his oratory and his body language and how to connect with the masses. And then went on to lead a life that got him in the history books. So, a lot of these people its not a dead end. They can come out of these homeless camps and have a productive life, or in Hitler’s case a very unproductive life.”
As for productivity, Hitler's creation of a circle of evil has few peers in the history of the world.

Related reading:

Hitler now had no use for his friend and made no attempt to find him again. He lived by himself, moving from place to place as his savings gradually dwindled and his lifestyle spiraled downward. Despite the need for money, Hitler made no attempt to get regular employment. He eventually pawned all his possessions and actually wound up sleeping on park benches and begging for money. He quickly became a dirty, smelly, unshaven young man wearing tattered clothes and did not even own an overcoat. In December of 1909, freezing and half starved, he moved into a homeless shelter. He ate at a soup kitchen operated by the nuns from a nearby convent. [emphasis added]
In February 1910, he moved into a home for poor men [Meldemannstrasse dormitory] ]where he would stay for the next few years. Hitler sometimes earned a little money as a day laborer, shoveling snow and carrying bags at the train station. He then discovered he could earn a meager living selling pictures of famous Vienna landmarks which he copied from postcards. Another resident at the home, Reinhold Hanish, acted as his agent, hawking Hitler's works of art to various shops where they were mostly used to fill empty picture frames. Hitler also painted posters for shop windows.

GET ME REWRITE: Partner in crime Fox News up the ante on GOP 2022 platform of teacher bashing and homophobi

Headline:  New Civil Rights Movement, 4/11/2022
From Tucker Carlson to Laura Ingraham to Mark Levin, Fox News propagandists have declared war on public school teachers. The dangerous attacks follow the right’s misleading claims – fueled by Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” legislation – about children inappropriately being taught about sex, homosexuality, bisexuality, sexual orientation, and gender identity starting as early as kindergarten.
