2023 Wisconsin Supreme Court primary election report: Counties where Daniel Kelly received largest and smallest percentage of the vote

Will GOP voters in Ozaukee and Waukesha counties hold their noses and mark their ballots for tainted, toxic Daniel Kelly?

Now, Republicans face losing control of a court that has delivered and protected their priorities for more than a decade while witnessing record turnout for a spring primary, most of which was for Protasiewicz.
"Those of us who believe in a fair and impartial judiciary must unite behind Daniel Kelly," Waukesha County Judge Jennifer Dorow said in a statement Wednesday. "We can’t let her succeed. I ask all those who volunteered, contributed and voted for me to now get behind Daniel Kelly."

New York Times, 2/22/2023
Eight months after the nation’s highest court made abortion illegal in Wisconsin, a liberal State Supreme Court candidate who made reproductive rights the centerpiece of her campaign won more votes than her two conservative opponents combined.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court primary election on Tuesday was a triumph for the state’s liberals. In addition to capturing 54 percent of the vote in the four-way, officially nonpartisan primary, they will face a conservative opponent in the general election who was last seen losing a 2020 court election by double digits.

Mississippi GOP racism in full flower (2023 edition)

HeadlineNew York Times, 2/20/2023
The proposal might be less provocative if not for the inescapable context: More than eight in 10 of Jackson’s 150,000 residents, as well as most of its elected leaders, judges and police officers, are African Americans. The proposed court system, and the police force, would be controlled almost exclusively by white officials in the state government.
Atop that, the new courts and police patrols would serve neighborhoods that contain the bulk of Jackson’s white population. The city’s Black neighborhoods would largely be skirted.

GET ME REWRITE: 24 years later, the population of Monroe County Illinois increased 26% and the number of farms has stabilized

The 1999 New York Times article reported that the county's population was expected to double by 2020.  That didn't happen.

The number of farms in Monroe County dropped from 802 in 1982 to 556 in 1997.  According to the 2017 USDA census of agriculture, the county had 568 farms.  This census takes place every 5 years.

Criminy! You need a survey to know this?

A 70-member committee?  A bit unwieldy, wouldn't you say?
The Dane County Regional Housing Strategy (RHS) has a roughly 70-member housing advisory committee that meets regularly and includes representatives from the Dane County Towns and Cities and Villages Association, elected officials, business leaders, developers, and nonprofits.

According to Merriam-Webster, the first known use of 'criminy', used as a mild oath to express surprise, occurred in 1681.

Gracie spent the first decade of the 20th century hovering in and around the 250 to 300 range, which was followed by a rapid decline in popularity.  She rocketed back onto the chart in the late 1990s, peaking at #94 in 2005, one of three years she spent in the top 100.  It's turning out to be a meteoric return engagement for her.

GET ME REWRITE: Kansas GOP fights crime and inflation with voter suppression legislation

Top headline:   NBC, 10/16/2022
Bottom headline:  Topeka Capital-Journal, 2/24/2023

From the Capital-Journal:
But baseless conspiracy theories regarding elections have only increased in the state, with elected officials and activists alike arguing that the state's election security protocols are overly lax and that the perception must be corrected.
"There is nothing more fundamental to our system of government than confidence from the voters that the results of the election reflect the will of the people," said Rep. Pat Proctor, R-Leavenworth, chair of the House Elections Committee. "And anything we can do to improve that confidence is a public good, a policy good and something we should do."

From Bloomberg:
But the visit to the former battleground state that Trump easily won twice is also casting light on one of the former president’s regulatory rollbacks: The repeal of new braking requirements for certain trains hauling highly hazardous freight put in place by the Obama administration. [emphasis added]
“Congressional Republicans and former Trump administration officials owe East Palestine an apology for selling them out to rail industry lobbyists when they dismantled Obama-Biden rail safety protections as well as EPA powers to rapidly contain spills,” White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said in a statement.
