Reported in Attorney says gun in his lap went off, striking wife.  (Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 9/29/2016)
A red herring?  The McIvers retrieved their gun — a .38 snub-nose revolver — from the center console of the 2013 Ford Expedition, alarmed about recent unrest surrounding several Black Lives Matter protests in the area and fearing a carjacking,
Crane told The AJC. The couple, who were being driven by an unidentified individual, left the area unharmed. But several blocks later on Piedmont Ave. near the park, the SUV hit a bump and the gun fired, Crane said. It was still wrapped in a plastic Publix bag in which it had been stored, Crane said.
Crane said McIver does not remember firing the gun. He was leaning back in the seat and nodding off when they hit the bump, the gun in his lap, Crane said.

Do you want a President with the emotional development of a 6-year-old to "be there, awake, to answer the call"?

A seething, untethered President, to boot.

Yeah, like blowing up the world.   The tirade fit a pattern. It is when Mr. Trump is alone with his thoughts, and untethered from his campaign staff, that he has seemed to commit his most self-destructive acts. “There has always been this dangerous part of him that will go too far and do something that backfires,” said Michael D’Antonio, the author of “The Truth About Trump,” a new biography of the real estate mogul.

But the bad news keeps rolling in. The editorial boards of the Arizona Republic and Detroit News this week broke 100-year-plus traditions of endorsing Republicans, while USA Today took sides for the first time in its history to urge Americans not to vote for Trump. A survey by Gallup found that 61 percent of those who watched the debate believe Clinton won, a 34-point victory over Trump. Battleground polls have showed improvements for Clinton.

Bobby Breen, "the most alarming vocal phenomenon of the day"

Sorry, folks, but I couldn't watch all 4 minutes and 5 seconds of this clip.

Bobby Breen, a Child Star Who Hit a High Note in the 1930s, Dies at 87.  (The New York Times, 9/24/2016)
Meteoric, in other words. He was Bobby Breen, and in a torrid run of seven more films over the next three years, he melted maternal hearts and emerged as a major star, in the same league as Mickey Rooney, Jane Withers and Freddie Bartholomew, earning $50,000 a year — a huge sum then — from testimonials alone.
Admit it, you never heard of him, even if the New York Times memorialized him, after all these years, with a 1062-word obituary.  (I'm just looking for some company here.)

"All the News That's Fit to Print."

And that's why I've been a subscriber for 30-some years.  And before I subscribed, I purchased a copy each day, whenever possible, going back to the early 1970s

IMDb lists 11 credits

In the news: Bottle flipping

Bottle flipping becomes the rage with middle schoolers. (Boston Globe, 9/30/2016)
For those wondering how this started — or simply in search of a target for their ire — a good place to start would be Michael Senatore, an 18-year-old from Charlotte, N.C., who could be described as the Godfather of bottle-flipping.
Last spring, finding himself without an act for his high school talent show, Senatore decided to try his hand at bottle-flipping, a hobby he and his classmates had dabbled in a year earlier. Armed with some dramatic music and a good amount of swagger, the teen strolled on stage and, with a flip of the wrist, landed a small, partly filled plastic bottle upright onto a nearby table.
The brief performance, which sent those in the audience into hysterics, was captured on video, and you can guess what happened next: 5 million YouTube views, a trove of gushing blog posts, an appearance by Senatore on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

Here's a bottle flipping video, posted just 10 days ago, with 6,963,256 views already.

If my wife -- or anyone else, for that matter -- tells me she'll be ready in 'a few' minutes, I wouldn't expect to wait more than 5.  I'd categorize 33 minutes as beyond rudeness.

If someone asks me for 'a few' dollars, I might check to see if I have any singles in my wallet.  If the person clarifies his request and explains, "No, I need $33," I'd chuckle and say, "Oh, so you want a loan then?"
