Saskatchewan and South Dakota report new cases of bird flu

Headline:  WATT Poultry, 4/15/2026

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) did not report the type of poultry involved, nor did it state how many birds were in the flock.
Prior to this, the last time a commercial flock had been struck by HPAI was February 23, with that situation involving a flock in Langley Township, British Colombia. The last time a commercial flock in Saskatchewan was struck by the virus was December 2, 2025, with that instance occurring in the Rural Municipality of Vanscoy.
This is the second time this year Canada has gone more than a month without any confirmed HPAI cases. Canada also went more than a month without any cases of HPAI in commercial poultry from earlier this year, with an absence of new commercial flock infections stretching from January 15 to February 19.
Cases in South Dakota were reported in the counties of Edmunds (13,800 commercial turkey breeder hens) and Charles Mix (50,400 turkeys).
