What's the matter with Iowa? Kimmi the Clown puts the finishing touch on a bad bill

Headline:  Des Moines Register, 4/19/2024
Reynolds announced the law signing without comment in a Friday afternoon news release. The law's Republican supporters have said allowing school districts to choose whether to allow armed staff on school grounds is a way to give districts more control over safety in the wake of a deadly shooting at Perry High School in January.  [It's called 'newspeak'.]
Democrats and gun violence prevention groups say it will make students and school employees less safe by increasing the likelihood of gun accidents in schools.

Her announcement emphasized her intention to advocate for policies that support schools, help working families, build safer communities and tackle long-term problems such as housing, healthcare affordability and climate change.
Neubauer was elected to represent the 66th District in 2018 following Cory Mason’s resignation to serve as City of Racine mayor.

It’s been an honor to serve the people of northwest Wisconsin in the Assembly. The district lines may have changed, but my dedication to constituents and our region remains the same. I worked to ensure our rural communities get the resources they need, reduced the tax burden on families, retirees, and small businesses, expanded broadband, helped fix our road and bridges, and much more. I’ll continue addressing critical issues facing our state while also stopping democrats’ radical agenda.”
The district is currently represented by Karen Hurd (R-Fall Creek), who doesn't live within the new boundaries.

Day 1269 of GOP election denier hysteria (Trump Big Lie Clown Show Circus, MAGA Colorado edition)

A conference for a far-right sheriffs group this week drew a parade of felons, disgraced politicians, election deniers, conspiracy theorists and, in the end, a few sheriffs.
[snip]
The conference opened a little behind schedule; the Pledge of Allegiance was delayed when organizers couldn’t find a flag. After he searched the conference center’s rooms, Tom Hamner, a Colorado man who served over two years in prison for the felony “interfering with law enforcement” on Jan. 6, 2021, came forward with the scarf from his wife’s neck. It wasn’t exactly a flag, but it was emblazoned with stars and stripes.

GET ME REWRITE: Clueless incompetents at Impact Ottawa give voters a big incentive to vote blue

The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners is expected to take up an anti-abortion resolution next week, venturing into cultural issues most county boards dare not go.
County board Chair Joe Moss and Vice Chair Sylvia Rhodea announced Thursday, April 18, they would bring up the “resolution to promote life” at the Tuesday, April 23 board meeting.
Moss, Rhodea and other commissioners affiliated with an ultra-conservative platform known as Ottawa Impact only two days ago filed for re-election to the board.

Wisconsin GOP campaign contributor and Waukesha County District Attorney Sue Opper lets MAGA Election Denier Queen Janel Brandtjen off the hook

Headline:  Wisconsin State Journal, 4/19/2024

Sue Opper shows her skills with a broom.  (As if sweeping it under the rug.)
Opper said in a letter to the commission she is declining to prosecute the matter based on insufficient evidence. “I am simply concluding that I cannot prove charges against her," Opper said in a statement.
"While the intercepted communications, such as audio recordings may be compelling in the court of public opinion, they are not in a court of law."
"This decision does not clear Rep. Brandtjen of any wrongdoing, there is just not enough evidence to move forward to let a factfinder decide,” Opper continued.
