Recent outbreak of avian flu in Texas affected 260,000 commercial broilers

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reported that the presence of HPAI was confirmed in that flock on December 15. The affected flock included 260,000 commercial broilers, APHIS revealed. 

The situation was first reported by the Texas Animal Health Commission, which stated that “considerable mortality” had been reported in the flock, and that samples were submitted to a Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory and those samples tested positive for HPAI on December 11.
