Avian influenza in North Dakota
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reported that on December 9, the presence of HPAI was confirmed in a commercial meat turkey flock in Richland County. The flock included 19,500 turkeys.
This is the fourth commercial poultry flock in North Dakota to date in 2025. Previously, the last instance was confirmed on November 3. All four of the state’s flock infections this year have involved turkeys.
Avian influenza in South Dakota
A commercial meat turkey flock in Kingsbury County is South Dakota’s most recent instance of HPAI. That case was confirmed on December 5, and 38,700 turkeys were involved.
So far in 2025, HPAI has appeared in 19 commercial poultry flocks. Of those, all have involved turkeys, except for one flock of egg laying hens in Aurora County.
