The Right is riding high with Trump because US corporate media is not doing its job. They’re paving the road to authoritarianism.

Just what we need to hear.  The warped views of 4 privileged white men.  Tone-deaf cluelessness.

When it comes to political reporting and commentary, there's plenty that's wrong with the New York Times.

Louisiana's Bill Cassidy, US Senator from a state with one of the lowest levels of educational achievement, is a scoundrel

First he opened the door for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as HHS secretary, and now he wants to slam the door on the Department of Education.

Despicable times two.

Why is this man laughing?

Shauneen Miranda reports:
GOP lawmakers, including Sens. Mike Rounds of South Dakota, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and Rand Paul of Kentucky, along with Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Michael Rulli of Ohio and David Rouzer of North Carolina, are working on or have introduced legislation that would accomplish Trump’s aims in abolishing the agency.
Trump’s order recognizes that only Congress — which established the 45-year-old department — has the power to dismantle it.

Wisconsin has a prison crisis and the GOP wants to make it worse

HeadlineWisconsin Public Radio, 3/20/2025

Sarah Lehr reports:
State Rep. Brent Jacobson, a lead sponsor of the proposal, said the goal is protecting public safety.
“I’m all for giving convicted criminals the chance to reintegrate into our communities,” the Mosinee Republican said in a committee hearing earlier this month. “However, it is unacceptable to give repeat criminals the opportunity to continue to put our families and neighbors at risk again and again without facing consequences.”
The Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association and the Milwaukee Police Association testified in favor of the legislation. Meanwhile, the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Public Defender’s office and a group called Ex-Incarcerated People Organizing of Wisconsin are among those opposing the bill.

West Virginia is one of the Trumpiest states in the country, with PresidentDonald Trump winning the state by a whopping 42 percentage points in the 2024 election. So you’d think—having delivered for Trump so big—that they’d be winning all sorts of victories.
And yet …
According to the Des Moines Register, Trump’s plan to revive shipbuilding in the United States by charging massive fees for China-linked ship visits to U.S. ports is causing coal inventory to swell, stoking uncertainty in the already embattled agriculture industry as exporters struggle to find ships to send goods abroad.
As a result, West Virginia coal mines are preparing to lay off miners as unsold coal piles up.
But, but, but … Trump loves coal miners!
“After years of being held captive by Environmental Extremists, Lunatics, Radicals, and Thugs, allowing other Countries, in particular China, to gain tremendous Economic advantage over us by opening up hundreds of all Coal Fire Power Plants, I am authorizing my Administration to immediately begin producing Energy with BEAUTIFUL, CLEAN COAL,” he posted on Truth Social just earlier this week.
Despite what Trump says, coal is a dead industry, and he’s doing his part to drive the final nail in its coffin.

In response to the impact of the Avian Flu outbreak on Ohio’s poultry industry, Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jim Tressel have formally requested the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide enhanced support to the state’s poultry producers.
Since December 2024, Ohio has seen Avian Flu detections in 74 premises, according to state officials. This has significantly affected the state’s production of eggs and poultry products. In Ohio, more than 15 million commercial and backyard poultry across the state have been culled, striking a hard blow to an industry that produces over 11 billion eggs annually.

On day 23,765 in office, 91-year-old Chuck Grassley remains staggeringly drunk on Trump Koolaid

Headline:  Fox News, 3/24/2025

Ruby F. McAllister reports on the deal Chuck made to purchase a certain bridge.
Footage posted on social media showed the 91-year-old Republican grinning and waving his arms as he waded into a hostile crowd that gathered outside the Franklin County Courthouse in Hampton on Friday.
"Stand up to Trump! Stand up to Trump!" the crowd could be heard chanting as Grassley exited the building following the event, flanked by two men who appeared to be security members.
An irate woman could then be heard yelling "traitor!" and "f--- you!" over and over toward Grassley, who at one point gives a double thumbs up in response to the reaction.

How nutty is the Texas GOP? Way nuttier than you think!

Texas GOP parties like it's 1960.

HeadlinePopular Information, 3/25/2025

Rebecca Crosby and Noel Sims report on how the Texas GOP is tackling the major issues of the day:
Lawmakers in Texas are seeking to impose harsh criminal penalties on school librarians and teachers who provide award-winning works of literature to students. Identical bills in the Texas Senate and House would make it a crime for librarians and teachers to provide books or learning materials that contain sexually explicit content, punishable by up to 10 years behind bars — whether or not a book has educational or literary merit.
Currently, if someone is charged with providing sexually explicit content to a child, they can argue that the content was provided in pursuit of a scientific, educational, or governmental purpose. SB 412 and HB 267 would remove this affirmative defense. This defense exists because, while some people provide explicit content to children to harm them, books that include sexual content have long been a valuable component of secondary education. Many classic works of literature, including "The Odyssey," "Catcher in the Rye," "Brave New World," and "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest," have sexually explicit scenes.
Under SB 412, which the Texas Senate voted to advance last week and now awaits approval by the House, teachers and librarians would no longer be able to argue that sexually explicit content can serve an educational purpose. Only law enforcement officials and judges would be exempted under the new law.

Nathan Diller reports:
Canadians who stay in America for more than 30 days have to register with the U.S. government according to the guidance, which was modified on Friday. The rule also applies to other foreign nationals.
“Failure to comply with the registration requirement could result in penalties, fines, and misdemeanor prosecution,” the web page reads. The guidance points Canadians to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website to find out whether or not they need to register.
The rule will take effect on April 11.
The requirement stems from an executive order issued by President Donald Trump on his first day in office, directing the Department of Homeland Security to ensure non-citizens comply with portions of the Immigration and Nationality Act. The law requires “all aliens 14 years of age or older who were not registered and fingerprinted (if required) when applying for a U.S. visa and who remain in the United States for 30 days or longer” to do so, according to the USCIS website. Parents and legal guardians of children under 14 must make sure they are registered.  [emphasis added]

Day 1604 of GOP election denier hysteria: First Felon Donald Trump’s Big Lie Clown Show Circus starring DC US Attorney Ed Martin

Headline: Daily Kos, 3/24/2025

Lisa Needham reports:
Interim D.C. U.S. Attorney Ed Martin is going to investigate voter fraud, and given the monster that Martin is, he’s probably going to find some despite its nonexistence. He has spun up what he’s pompously calling “Special Unit: Election Accountability” as if he’s helming a “Law & Order” spinoff.
Martin is emerging as one of the dumbest villains in the villain-stuffed Trump administration. In part, that’s because he’s exceptionally unqualified to be a U.S. attorney, having no experience whatsoever that would warrant making him the top prosecutor for the nation’s capital.
Martin’s past work is limited to writing pro-Trump garbage with conservative anti-feminist Phyllis Schlafly and unsuccessfully running for elected office in Missouri.
