South Korea egg supply diminished by bird flu outbreaks

Headline:  WATT Poultry, 1/30/2026

Jackie Linden reports:
Following a series of outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in laying flocks, the authorities in South Korea have turned to imports to stabilize the nation’s egg market.
Distribution of imported fresh eggs is scheduled to start this week in South Korea.
According to the Yonhap news agency, the first consignment of more than 1.1 million eggs from the U.S. were already in the country, and a second shipment of the same size was expected at the end of January.
A shortage of domestic egg production had accrued in South Korea following a series of HPAI outbreaks that had hit the nation’s layer hen flocks particularly hard.
