Photo and headline:   Lancaster Online, 5/5/2026
The recreational trails at Maryland’s Conowingo Dam, just over the Lancaster County line, are closed after Constellation Energy, the dam’s operator, found carcasses of black vultures that tested positive for avian influenza.
The energy company has temporarily shut down the Wildflower trailhead and the Mason Dixon trail between the Overlook parking area and Fisherman’s Park, where the birds were found, according to information Constellation officials shared via a press release. Fisherman’s Park at the Conowingo Dam is still open; however, visitors are restricted from bringing pets, including dogs, onto the property.
