MSM quavers in the face of a possible GOP majority in both houses of Congress.  At least on of the most chickenhearted has already capitulated.

GET ME REWRITE: GOP gears up to fight crime and inflation while planning to outlaw right to contraception, led by Arizona one-man clown show Blake Masters

Headline:   AZ Mirror, 10/31/2022
In a further appalling move, Blake Masters declared if elected, he would only vote for Supreme Court justices that would overturn cases protecting the right to contraceptives. I always thought our Arizona officials were elected to protect our freedoms, not take them away.

Jeannette enjoyed a steady and successful run during the first half of the 20th century, spending 29 years in the top 200 (1909-1923, 1925, 1930-1942) and peaking at #171 in 1916.  After a slow decline, she pretty much fell off a cliff after 1985, disappearing from view in 1994.

GET ME REWRITE: GOP gears up to fight crime and inflation by embracing anti-trans rhetoric like never before

Top headline:  NBC, 10/18/2022
Bottom headline: The 19th, 11/3/2022
From the 19th
Republicans in 2022 midterm races are embracing more anti-transgender rhetoric than in any year that LGBTQ+ experts can remember. The rhetoric is frequently tied to “parental rights,” which is invoked by proponents of bills to remove information about LGBTQ+ people from schools and libraries or keep trans youth out of sports. In ads and on the stump, candidates are sharing incorrect, inflammatory statements that are often used as a basis to restrict gender-affirming care.
Outside groups, notably the America First Legal Foundation and the American Principles Project super PAC, are adding more fuel to the fire. A recent ad from the American Principles Project, described by President Terry Schilling as the group’s “closing ad in the 2022 election,” uses photos of early surgery scars from transgender people, whose faces are blurred, and accuses the Biden administration and Democrats of “pushing transgender drugs and surgeries on kids” due to their support of the Equality Act.

GET ME REWRITE: GOP gears up to fight crime and inflation by encouraging supporters to intimidate voters

But drop box watchers have been encouraged by some rightwing elected officials and candidates who have feigned credulity of false claims of a stolen election. One state lawmaker, the Arizona senator Kelly Townsend, encouraged “vigilantes” to stake out drop boxes (the same lawmaker then said last month that “wearing tactical gear while watching a ballot drop box could be considered voter intimidation”, so people shouldn’t do it). The Republican candidate for Arizona secretary of state, Mark Finchem, tweeted in late October to tell his followers to “WATCH ALL DROP BOXES. PERIOD.” He also urged followers to record voters using them.

The Village Board has hired the Waukesha law firm of Arenz Molter Macy & Riffle in an effort to overturn the state election commission decision.  The village’s appeal was filed Oct. 21.
Village President Kari Morgan defended the decision to file suit, while casting doubts on the state election commission, which is a bipartisan panel empowered by state lawmakers to implement election laws.
Referring to the Village Board, Morgan said, “The board is a big proponent of voting integrity, and we are ensuring that the laws are being followed as listed in the state statutes and not being interpreted by a commission that is not elected by the people.”  [emphasis added]

GET ME REWRITE: Why? Americans have long been addicted to snake oil come-ons

Headline:  NPR, 11/4/2022
Dictionary definitionMerriam-Webster
From Rihanna to Brad Pitt, celebrities everywhere seem to be starting their own skincare lines. And they all seem to promise to help us achieve healthy, glowing, youthful skin – just like theirs. And yet most of those stars didn't use their own products to get their clear, Hollywood-smooth complexions. So what are they really selling? And why can't we seem to stop buying in?

According to Merriam-Webster, the first known use of 'snake oil' occurred in 1917.

And it appears that RoJo would rather be anywhere but in Wisconsin.  Let's give him his wish.  Let's flip this seat.

Keeping tabs on authors in LINKcat (Julie Powell)

New York Times, 11/1/2022
The Julie/Julia Project became a popular model for other blogs, replicated by fans of the cooks Ina Garten, Thomas Keller and Dorie Greenspan, and helped build the vast modern audience for home cooking on social media.
In 2002, Ms. Powell was an aspiring writer working at a low-level administrative job in Lower Manhattan. She was about to turn 30 and had no real career prospects. It was, she said in an interview with The New York Times, “one of those panicked, backed-into-a-corner kind of moments.”
To lend structure to her days, she set out to cook all 524 recipes from her mother’s well-worn copy of Mrs. Child’s 1961 classic “Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Volume 1.” But as an untrained cook who lived in a small Long Island City loft, she found the road to be long, sweaty and bumpy.

Keeping tabs on authors in LINKcat (John Jay Osborn Jr.)

“The Paper Chase” was a reflection of Mr. Osborn’s experiences at Harvard Law amid an era of fervent student protests over the Vietnam War.
The school “did not have the flexibility to allow individuals to express themselves,” he wrote in the Harvard Law Bulletin in 2003. “It did not allow for reciprocity between faculty and students. In short, it really had no desire to be loved, or even to be respected.”
