Nicole Pollock reports:
The city of Madison is proposing to buy the baseball fields used by East Madison Little League, which the city would then add to an existing park but let the Little League continue to operate.
East Madison Little League has leased the nearly 9-acre property at the intersection of Aberg and Packers avenues since 1994, when the land belonged to the nearby Oscar Mayer plant, according to a memo from Parks Superintendent Eric Knepp.
After the Oscar Mayer plant closed in 2017, a pair of out-of-state companies bought the former campus through an LLC and began selling its assets and preparing the land for redevelopment. The same LLC bought the East Madison Little League facilities at 1010 North St., property records show.
