Greetings from Trump's America: Dickinson County, Michigan, where some folks are having a change of heart

The Upper Peninsula hasn’t always been a Republican stronghold. Fueled by copper, iron ore and nickel mines in the 1800s and 1900s, the region had a strong economy and a large union work force who were loyal Democrats. While the rest of Michigan handed a big presidential victory to George H.W. Bush in 1988, the Upper Peninsula voted for the Democratic candidate, Michael Dukakis, and followed up with a near sweep for Bill Clinton in 1992 and a totally blue map in 1996.

2016 electon map

The latest Marquette Law School Poll from early August shows Trump and Biden both with 46% support and other candidates taking 8%. The last poll before the 2016 election had Trump beating Clinton in the area 47-38 with 15% support for other candidates or undecided.

2018 gubernatorial election map

The following 8 counties went from red to blue:  Grant, Crawford, Vernon, Richland, Iowa, Sauk, Columbia, Kenosha.

2020 Wisconsin Supreme Court election map

The following 9 counties changed colors:  Pierce, Dunn, Trempealeau, Jackson, Winnebago, Outagamie, Brown, Door, Lafayette.

And GOP voters in the Milwaukee collar counties of Waukesha, Washington, and Ozaukee, a deep-red bastion of Republicanism, never liked Trump that much in the first place.  Compared to Romney, he underperformed in Waukesha and Ozaukee counties, and Clinton did much bertter than Obama in all.

GET ME REWRITE: Jefferson Wisconsin police chief likes the man with the gasoline can

Law enforcement groups send critical letter to governor over Jacob Blake shooting comments.  (WBAY,  8/26/2020)

Jefferson County:  1% of the population is black, 10.6% is Hispanic.

And police department is 100% white.

2008 was an anomaly for Jefferson County.

Wisconsin 2020 elections: Who's running in the 39th State Assembly District

In November 2018, Mark Born (R-Beaver Dam) won a 4th term in the Assembly in another cakewalk.

According to his campaign website, Izzy Hassey Nevarez, his Democratic opponent, lives with his husband John (a native Cheesehead), and their dog, Max, in a small cottage on Lake Sinissippi. Surrounded by their closely-knit community, they spend much of their time volunteering to serve the people of the place they love to call home.

'Miss Kitty' certainly deserves some credit for an Amanda revival that started in the mid-1950s.  The long-running TV series "Gunsmoke" debuted in September 1955 with Amanda Blake in the role of the saloon-keeper.   The popularity of the name jumped from #416 in 1955 to #346 in 1956.  From there, it continued its ascent into the top 10, where it spent 20 years (1976-1995), peaking at #2 in 1980.
