GET ME REWRITE: Looney Tunes election denier Janel Brandtjen continues to peddle 2020 election lies as the ground falls out beneath her feet

WisPolitics, 6/23/2022
Representative Brandtjen states, “The Commission’s failure to provide information is the reason this investigation is still going on. We have narrowed the search on the election database and the Legislative Council memo should make it clear that we are expecting this taxpayer-funded data. I call on Speaker Vos and Majority Leader LeMahieu to provide some long overdue support. There is no question their silence has encouraged the Commission’s stonewalling”.
Their silence, Janel, is meant to discourage you from being a continuing embarrassment to the Republican Party of Wisconsin.

6/17/2022 update, "Star attraction at GOP Voter Suppression Road Show", starts here

But they haven’t given up on voter suppression, either.
This weekend in Wauwatosa, Republican partisans are holding an “election integrity summit,” with a focus on “recruitment, training and deployment” of poll watchers . One of the organizers is attorney Cleta Mitchell, who promoted Trump’s bogus theories of the stolen election.
This appears to be part of a national GOP effort to get as many hyper-partisan poll workers and election observers to sign up for duty, especially in Democratic precincts, to challenge as many Democratic voters as possible.
A recent article in Politico outlined “ a multi-pronged strategy to target and potentially overturn votes in Democratic precincts: Install trained recruits as regular poll workers and put them in direct contact with party attorneys.” One GOP official bragged, “It’s going to be an army.”
The summit is also showing the film “Rigged,” which amplifies the Big Lie. And the two featured speakers there will be none other than Michael Gableman and Janel Brandtjen. [emphasis added]

Apparently, The Center Square is Janel's personal megaphone.

“Integrity demands acknowledging the truth even when the truth is painful. In this case, the painful truth is that President Trump lost the election in 2020 – lost the election in Wisconsin in 2020. And the loss was not due to election fraud,” Knudson said during Wednesday’s WEC meeting.
Knudson is a former Republican lawmaker, and helped create the Wisconsin Elections Commission back in 2015.
"I'll put my conservative record up against anyone in the state of Wisconsin, and yet now I've been branded a RINO," Knudson added, employing the acronym for Republican In Name Only.
But Republican state Rep. Janel Brandtjen, R-Menomonee Falls, on Thursday questioned Knudson’s conservative bona fides.

'Election boss'?  Guess whose side The Center Square is on?

State Rep. Janel Brandtjen, R-Menomonee Falls, on Wednesday blasted the plan from Milwaukee’s election director to open in-person early voting this year in nearly 30 places, including a barber shop and a coffee shop.
“It is the job of election officials to make sure the election is conducted securely, fairly, and within the limits of the law. It’s time for government officials to get out of the ‘get out the vote’ business,” Brandtjen told The Center Square. “That is the job of the individual campaigns.”
Brandtjen said there is no need to take pop-up early voting into neighborhoods in Milwaukee.“Citizens across Wisconsin have been casting their vote at a regular polling place since 1848,” Brandtjen added.

Maybe Janel should take a closer look at the Wisconsin State Statutes.  There's is no definition of a 'regular' polling place.

And guess what REALLY freaks out Janel?

All of 'those people' in Milwaukee who have darker skin tones than her.

She then warned Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos not to end the investigation before those answers are provided.
“If Speaker Vos shuts down the Office of Special Counsel’s investigation now, not only will he be condoning cheating, he'll be legalizing it,” Brandtjen said.

WisPolitics, 4/15/2021
Of all people, Rep. Brandtjen should be the last to cast stones when it comes to decency in the wake of a political loss. When violent insurrectionists attacked the United States Capitol on January 6th of last year, Rep. Brandtjen had nothing to say to condemn the actions of those extremists. And then, instead of learning a meaningful lesson from that awful attack, she doubled down – she abused her position as Chair of the Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections to perpetuate the Big Lie, regularly inviting election conspiracy theorists to undermine our democracy. Her tenuous grasp on reality in relation to elections was so evident that Speaker Vos chose to circumvent her entirely and direct elections-related legislation through another committee.

“Last Thursday, a group that has spent an enormous amount of time and money looking into the November election, called “True the Vote,” gave a presentation before the Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections. They presented evidence using cell phone GPS data, showing that 138 people visited illegal drop boxes 3,568 times in the days and weeks before the November election. The group is also involved in the ongoing court case against the use of drop boxes that Waukesha County Judge Michael Bohren recently ruled on. It is estimated that over 137,000 ballots were illegally harvested in this fashion.  [emphasis added]

“I want to make very clear that we’re not suggesting that the ballots that were cast were illegal ballots,” True the Vote founder Catherine Engelbrecht said.

he Senate's last session day is Tuesday and the bill isn't on the agenda. Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu's spokesman, Adam Gibbs, said in an email to The Associated Press on Monday that the chamber won't take up the bill. He didn't offer any explanation.
Conservatives have pushed back against the bill over the last several days. Rep. Janel Brandtjen, chairwoman of the Assembly's elections committee, has said the bill just gives partisan election officials an extra day to cheat.
Republicans continue to insist that President Joe Biden somehow stole the election from Donald Trump, although they haven't produced any evidence widespread fraud.

3/1/2022 update, "Voters in 22nd Wisconsin Assembly District should vote bad actor and Looney Tunes celebrity Janel Brandtjen out of office come November", starts here.

The original legislation gave whistleblower protections for election clerks who report questions on Election Day. But a last-minute amendment changed the focus of the proposal.
Now, SB 946, allows clerks to begin counting absentee ballots on the Monday before Election Day.
“Why would we give bad actors an extra day to cheat?” Brandtjen asked. “Counting the ballots should be driven by security not speed.”
Brandtjen is one of three Republicans in the State Assembly to vote against the changes. Rep. Chuck Wichgers, R-Muskego, and Rep. Scott Allen, R-Waukesha, were the other two.

WisPolitics, 2/17/2022
Madison- State Representative Janel Brandtjen (R- Menomonee Falls) issued the following statement regarding Speaker Vos’ attempt today to subvert the legislative process against the interest of election integrity:
“It is no secret that the Speaker of the Assembly, Robin Vos, and State Senator Kathy Bernier have been severely downplaying the significance of the voter fraud that the elections committee, the special counsel, and numerous independent groups have uncovered. Even in the face of growing outrage from an overwhelming number of Wisconsinites across the state, they continue to play political games with the future of our elections and our state.

2/10/2022 update, "Apparently, the false and unprovable voter fraud claims of convicted felon are too much even for conspiracy theory nut Janel Brandtjen to swallow, starts here.

Soon after a man convicted of mail and bank fraud began a presentation Wednesday at an Assembly hearing featuring false and unprovable claims about the 2020 election, the committee’s Republican chair stopped him.
“I just want to mention that any of the material that is presented today is not a direct complaint against any individuals themselves,” said Rep. Janel Brandtjen, R-Menomonee Falls.

“WEC stated that the request was ‘insane’ and would cost $100,000 to fulfill – a request that provides transparency into the WisVote database,” Brandtjen said. “Our request is simple. Who does the work on the WisVote system? Who created it, who maintains it and who has access to it?”
Perhaps you should start here, Janel.

1/7/2022 update starts here

In an interview Wednesday, Rep. Janel Brandtjen (R-Menomonee Falls) said Republicans on the Assembly's elections committee, which she chairs, hope to learn more about the ability to access the status of more than 7 million voters whose records are stored in the database.
"I think it's the transparency of the voter list itself," Brandtjen said. "We want to make sure the voter list is being managed in a way people feel comfortable with the information that's on there."

Ann Jacobs, who chairs the Wisconsin Elections Commission's (WEC) six-member board, said the voter lists poll workers have at polling places only include active voters. She said maintaining records for voters whose statuses have been switched to inactive makes it easier to flag anything suspicious - and also makes it easier to keep consistent records for voters who re-register to vote.
"It's really important to help keep track of who's registering a second time because we've got to make sure we have older records that we can merge together," Jacobs said. "If we saw a sudden spate of people who were marked as dead suddenly coming to life, we would be able to see that data."

Maricopa County also said the types of files Logan cited during the briefing aren't the correct documents for determining how many early ballots were sent and received. In a follow-up tweet, the county wrote that, of 2,364,426 requests for mail-in ballots, 1,918,024 were returned. In a statement published July 15, the Republican chair of the county's Board of Supervisors also rebuked Logan's claims. [emphasis added]

One of Cyber Ninjas "critical findings" was that 23,344 mail-in ballots were cast by people who no longer resided at their address on file. These voters, the company asserted, "should not have received their ballots by mail because they had moved," suggesting that they had been wrongly forwarded to the voters' new address, a claim amplified by the spokesperson for former President Donald Trump.
But that is not true.
According to the office of Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer, a Republican elected in November 2020, "As required by law, all election materials, such as ballots, are marked 'Do Not Forward — Return Service Requested.'" Returned ballots initiate a process of removing the person from the voter roll.  [emphasis added]

“One of the things that irritates me the most is when everyone who's like, ‘it was the most fair election ever,’” Representative Brandtjen said. "Is it a fair election if your clerks in Milwaukee and Madison say, 'hey, you don't have to show your ID anymore’? Special voting deputies were no longer allowed in senior facilities."

Rohn Bishop, chairman of the Fond du Lac Republican Party, said he hopes the Arizona report pushes Republicans to focus on 2022 races instead.
"I was told by a WI legislator that the AZ audit was going to be a bombshell, and that I was in the minority by not having the Republican Party of Fond du Lac County sign up for the Full Physical and Forensic Cyber Audit," he tweeted Friday.
"Hopefully, my fellow Repubs stop with this nonsense, and begin to focus on 2022 elections. Right now GOP effort is hacking off Republican Clerks, and alienating soft GOP voters who think we're nuts and wasting their tax dollars."  [emphasis added]

"It’s clear to me that the Republicans are not interested in improving our election processes but rather desperate to find some type of smoking gun that doesn’t exist," Christenson said. 9/14/2021 update, "In other words, Janel Brandtjen is an ignoramus", starts here

WKOW, 9/13/2021
McDonell said he was concerned the investigator appointed by Speaker Robin Vos did not have a deep understanding of how election records are stored in Wisconsin, comparing it to the subpoenas issued by Rep. Janel Brandtjen (R-Menomonee Falls) seeking signature-matching records even though Wisconsin doesn't do signature matching in the election verification process.

"It is very concerning to think that people who have no knowledge of the elections, and haven't brought anyone on board that does know to help them, are the ones making these requests," McDonell said.  [emphasis added]
That's what happens when an ignoramus is given the reins.

9/11/2021 update, "GOP Wisconsin State Senator Kathy Bernier smacks down Janel Brandtjen", starts here.
The Republican chair of the Senate Elections Committee held a training session to describe how Wisconsin's elections operate, which comes as Republicans ramp up their efforts to investigate the 2020 presidential election.
State Sen. Kathleen Bernier (R-Chippewa Falls) held an informational hearing Wednesday that included a panel of state and local election officials along with security experts in voting machines to help provide clarity on how elections operate.
"I thought this would be an outstanding idea because for quite a few years now I've heard misinformation and disinformation about the electoral process," Bernier said at the beginning of the presentation.

9/10/2021 update, "Former New Jersey Governor Christine Whitman slaps down Janel Brandtjen", starts here.

Former New Jersey Gov. Christine Whitman and former Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson, both Republicans, said an effort spearheaded by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R-Rochester, and an inquiry backed by state Rep. Janel Brandtjen, R-Menomonee Falls, threaten the health of democracy by undermining public faith in elections.
"It’s clear that these are bad faith efforts, not fact-finding missions, but rather political stunts to keep the lies about the 2020 election alive," Whitman said Wednesday on a call with reporters.  [emphasis added]
Whitman, who has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump’s false claims about 2020 election fraud, compared both investigations to the controversial election audit conducted in Arizona earlier this summer, saying all the efforts lack credibility and transparency and are "plagued by security and legal concerns." A group founded by Whitman released a memo Wednesday drawing parallels between the efforts in the two states.

September 9 update starts here

It was actually weeks ago that lawyers for the nonpartisan Legislative Council issued two different memos finding Brandtjen alone does not have the authority to issue such subpoenas, as WKOW-TV in Madison reported. The council found the subpoenas would need the signatures of Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Assembly Chief Clerk Ted Blazel.
Brandtjen admitted to the station that she put the flawed subpoenas together. “I’ll take responsibility for it,” said Brandtjen. “I’m not an attorney. I never claimed to be one.”
Non-attorney Brandtjen had issued 47-point legal subpoenas to Milwaukee and Brown counties that were nearly verbatim to a request made by a Republican lawmaker in Pennsylvania, as Patrick Marley reported.

State Rep. Janel Brandtjen, R-Menomonee Falls, is now suing the City of Racine for the release of emails and other documents related to the city’s dealings with CTCL. Brandtjen has made headlines in recent weeks after saying on Aug. 6 she was going to issue subpoenas demanding extensive election materials from Milwaukee and Brown counties, even though she doesn’t have the authority to issue subpoenas.
Janel has to be disappointed with the turnout at her Kenosha press.  (Most of whom are probably family and Capitol staffers.)  Yup, it downright pathetic.

The trip is being spearheaded by Rep. Janel Brandtjen, who told her constituents last December that there was “no doubt” that Donald Trump won Wisconsin. Brandtjen recently joined likely gubernatorial candidate Rebecca Kleefisch for a video about “election reform” that was laced with disinformation and election conspiracy theories. Kleefisch has given her full endorsement to all of the Wisconsin GOP’s voter suppression bills.

Center Square Wisconsin, 6/15/2021
Rep. Janel Brandtjen, R-Menomonee Falls, told The Center Square she saw a lot and learned a lot while in Phoenix over the weekend. Some of the things, she said, Wisconsin could borrow if there’s ever a ballot review here.
“Remember Wisconsin currently has an audit going,” Brandtjen said.
She led five other Wisconsin Republicans to observe Maricopa County’s ballot review on Saturday.
“It’s an audit. It’s a very exact process,” Brandtjen said. “It’s a very sophisticated process.”
Democrats at the Wisconsin Capitol accused Brandtjen of chasing “tin foil hat” conspiracy theories.

Remember, Janel, the audit is being conducted by the nonpartisan Wisconsin Legislature Audit Bureau, not some crackpot shit show whose primary goal is to steal the election for Trump.

The review by the nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau will look at some issues that have faced scrutiny from courts and election observers, such as how the state maintains its voter rolls and when it allows voters to get absentee ballots without showing IDs.

The Wisconsin Legislative Audit Bureau routinely conducts dozens of audits each year.   It's their job!

6/17/2021 update, " Janel Brandtjen appears to be drowning in Trump voter fraud Koolaid", starts here.

Rep. Janel Brandtjen, R-Menomonee Falls and chair of the Campaigns and Elections Committee, said she’s not sure the Legislative Audit Bureau has the authority to conduct such a review.
But Brandtjen argued such a review was warranted considering the amount of private money that went into some of the state’s largest communities to help cover the costs of putting on the elections during a pandemic.

6/13/2021 update, "Gussied up Arizona tourist Janel Brandtjen has so much to answer for", starts here.

Brandtjen has not said whether she believes it’s appropriate for Arizona officials to accept private funds for their review of ballots. She has not said why she accepted a privately funded trip in light of her opposition to private donations for administering elections. She and the other Wisconsin lawmakers did not return phone calls Saturday.  [emphasis added]

"The point of the trip is to observe a large-scale recounting process using volunteers and contracted vendors to determine ballot integrity and possible reconstruction of the Dominion machine programming," Rep. Janel Brandtjen, R-Menomonee Falls, said in a Wednesday letter to Assembly Speaker Robin Vos of Rochester seeking approval for the trip.
Vos approved the request, according to a spokeswoman.
Brandtjen said the trip will be paid for by a group called Voices and Votes, self-described as an organization aimed at "protecting free speech from cancel culture."
Do the math.  It's a very simpole 1 + 1 exercise

Mediaite, 6/5/2021
As former President Donald Trump prepres to restart his rallies, The New York Times reports that aides and others joke about Trump’s frequent consultations with conspiracy-minded One America News reporter Christina Bobb.
In an article entitled “At Once Diminished and Dominating, Trump Prepares for His Next Act,” Annie Karni and Maggie Haberman flesh out reporting from earlier this week that Trump believes he will be “reinstated” to the presidency this August, and add that he also believes Republicans will be reinstated to the Senate majority at the same time.
Their reporting also reveals that Trump is being heavily influenced by Bobb, a reporter for OAN who constantly pushes the sorts of election lies that fed the Capitol insurrection:
