Beer. Skee-Ball. Seasonal cocktails. A Mario Kart league. Classic arcade games. Pizza. Soft pretzels. Pinball machines (43 of them, to be exact). The Kickback Bar — which held its grand opening on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. — furnishes the Middleton Market Food Hall (7622 Lisa Lane, Middleton) with all of this and more as its first tenant.
More is yet to come for Middleton Market though, says Alaina Beger, a representative from the commercial property’s developer. Expect a mix of local eateries and food businesses to have moved in by the spring of 2025, with places to grab coffee, bakery items or ice cream added to the lineup alongside The Kickback.

The Cleveland County District Attorney’s office has charged a former pastor who’s accused of sending an unsolicited nude photo of himself to a Kansas teenager. News 4 spoke with the victim’s father in December, who was relieved after hearing James McMillan had been arrested in connection to the case.

“He’s clearly proven that he has a problem with this and won’t, you know, won’t stop,” said the victim’s father in December. “He’s somebody that’s truly a danger to our society.”

Eggs available.....for a price

New York Times, 1/24/2025
Volatile egg prices have been a part of the grocery shopping experience partly because of inflation, but also because of an avian influenza, or bird flu, that made its way to the United States in 2022. That influenza, caused by the H5N1 virus, has infected or killed 136 million birds thus far. But the outbreak has recently intensified.
More than 30 million chickens — roughly 10 percent of the nation’s egg-laying population — have been killed in just the last three months, to prevent the spread of the disease. It could take months before the supply of egg-laying chickens returns to the normal level of around 318 million, roughly the equivalent of one chicken per person. [emphasis added]

Trump crime family seals a deal in Belgrade, Serbia

Rendering:  SeeNews
Headline:  New York Times, 1/24/2025
More than a decade after Donald J. Trump first floated the idea of developing a Trump hotel on a government-owned site in Serbia, his family is now close to securing that dream in a complicated deal that also involves a real estate magnate from Abu Dhabi and Jared Kushner, Mr. Trump’s son-in-law.
The plan illustrates the continued ambitions of Mr. Trump’s family to forge new international deals, even as he has returned to the White House. It also reflects a diminished focus, compared with that of his first term, on avoiding the appearance of a conflict of interest associated with the overseas projects. [emphasis added]

Just 1382 days to go until 2028 Election: First Felon Donald Trump as White House squatter

HeadlineNew York Times, 1/24/2025
President Trump has mused more than once that he might like to extend his stay at the White House. But can he run for re-election again in 2028 and seek a third term? The simple answer: No, the Constitution does not allow it.
That hasn’t stopped one of Mr. Trump’s allies in the House, Representative Andy Ogles, a Republican of Tennessee, from introducing a long-shot resolution seeking to change the law soon after Mr. Trump returned to office.
By the end of his second term, Mr. Trump, now 78, would be the oldest president in history.
Here’s why the issue has surfaced and what the law says:

GET ME REWRITE: Senate Republicans cower and cave in vote to approve drunk Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense

Headline, CNN, 1/24/2025

Only 3 GOP senators showed some spine
Vice President JD Vance cast the 51-50 tie-breaking vote after former GOP Leader Mitch McConnell and GOP Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine joined Democrats to oppose Hegseth’s nomination. It was just the second time in history that a vice president has broken a tie for a Cabinet nominee – the other being then-Vice President Mike Pence for Betsy DeVos’ 2017 confirmation to lead the Education Department.
Another spineles Senate GOP endeavor.

Latest bird flu casualties: 100,000 Long Island ducks

Headline:  New York Times, 1/23/2025
Long Island duck is a delicacy savored across the country for its mild flavor and tender meat. But its future has been cast into doubt after the last duck farm on the island was quarantined for an outbreak of bird flu.
The farm, Crescent Duck Farm in Aquebogue, N.Y., must now kill its entire flock of almost 100,000 ducks and may go out of business, its owner said in an interview. The highly infectious virus, H5NI avian flu, was detected last week.

Tennessee News: Meet Hitler princess and president of state GOP women's group Sharon Boreing

Rhymes with Goering?

HeadlineChattanooga Times Free Press, 1/23/2025

Yes, you read that correctly:  "Hitler and all the other intelligent  leaders throughout history...."
The Tennessee Federation of Republican Women is coming under fire for providing parents a reading list for children that cites Adolf Hitler as an example of leadership.
[snip]
The group's president, Sharon Boreing, on Thursday asked a reporter to call back later and then did not answer the phone on a second call. She did not respond to a follow-up text.

Sharon, Hitler wasn't talking about reading.

Feel free to follow up on TNFRW's offer.

There's a good chance that Sharon is also a member of Moms for Liberty.

Or maybe folks are stocking up on toilet paper just in case a bird flu pandemic becomes a thing

Why don't Americans believe that crime is falling? Retiring Guy nominates the social media app Nextdoor as one of the culprits

Headline:  Governing, 1/15/2025
Screengrab:  Nextdoor

We didn't have social media in the 1990s
As I write this, we are witnessing a decline in violent crime approaching the one that occurred in the 1990s. If the lessons of that decade are a reliable guide, public confidence in urban safety should be bouncing back again. This time, though, it isn’t happening.
The numbers themselves, especially the latest ones, are pretty striking. According to the FBI, the number of murders in the United States fell in 2023 by the steepest rate ever recorded. That pattern persisted in 2024. As of October, homicides were down about 16 percent nationwide, just compared with the previous year.
