GET ME REWRITE: Candidate endorsed by Trump to unseat Peter Meijer in Congress finds himself in a whirlwind of chaos in Ottawa County, Michigan

Headlinemlive, 2/23/32024

Taking a cue from his mentor
The complaints made by county employees and commissioners include Gibbs allegedly claiming without any substantiation that a county official was cheating on their spouse, sweeping his office monthly for surveillance devices, sabotaging the work of the board, threatening to kill the county attorney and criticizing commissioners’ faith.
[snip]
Gibbs was hired in a surprise move Jan. 3, 2023, by the then newly seated, ultraconservative faction on the county board called Ottawa Impact. His predecessor, John Shay, was immediately fired, and Gibbs was selected for the role without any public input.

Sponsored by Moms for Liberty: Meet the 3 members of the Kenosha County Board of Supervisors who wasted taxpayer's time and money on a silly and wholly unnecessary library resolution

HeadlineWTMJ, 2/21/2024
16 board supervisors voted against and 5 voted in favor. Those against it say the resolution is vague and not enforceable. Meanwhile, the ones for it argue it’s needed to protect kids.
Kenosha mom, Danielle Essig, wasn’t aware of the potential of creating a separate room for certain books.
“I hadn't heard anything about that. I definitely think they should make it a little bit more public and have some type of poll or something to see if anyone would actually want it in the library, rather than just putting it there and saying ‘Oh, here it is.’
" Essig says taxpayer money can be used for other things in the county.

Here's the resolution

GET ME REWRITE: Liz Truss, star of 44-day United Kingdom Clown Show as prime minister, sez she'd vote for Donald Trump if she were an American citizen

But you're not, Liz.  On the other hand, you are a hopeless cipher.

Liz Truss announced her resignation in her 44th day in office, becoming the United Kingdom shortest serving Prime Minister.

HeadlineThe Telegraph, 2/23/2024
Liz Truss said she would vote for Donald Trump over Joe Biden if she were an American citizen, effectively endorsing the Republican frontrunner in his race to reclaim the White House in November.

Headline: Accountable, 2/31/2024
Anti-democratic extremism is alive and well at CPAC. Over the next few days, a cast of election deniers and insurrectionists will take the stage — peddling debunked conspiracies to an audience of extremist conservatives including leaders in the House MAGA majority.
One such election denier set to speak today is Jeffrey Clark of the right-wing Center for Renewing America. The group made waves this week when its new plan revealing its priorities in a second Trump term included “invoking the Insurrection Act on Day One” against protestors, underscoring how the far-right fringe of the GOP is taking extremism to a new level.

GET ME REWRITE: Jail for Janel?

Headline:  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 2/23/2024
A state oversight panel is recommending Wisconsin prosecutors pursue a slate of felony charges against a fundraising committee for Donald Trump and a Republican state lawmaker in a scheme to evade campaign finance laws surrounding an effort to unseat one of the most powerful Republicans in Wisconsin, Trump foe Assembly Speaker Robin Vos.
The Wisconsin Ethics Commission alleges Trump's Save America political action committee, GOP Rep. Janel Brandtjen, county Republican party officials and the campaign committee of Adam Steen, who ran against Vos in 2022, conspired to avoid state fundraising limits for Steen's bid to replace Vos.
The alleged scheme to flood donations to Steen's campaign materialized as Trump and Brandtjen pressured Vos to take illegal and impractical steps to decertify the 2020 election when President Joe Biden defeated Trump by about 20,000 votes.

GET ME REWRITE: Meet the stumblebums of Michigan's Ottawa County Board

HeadlineCrooked, 2/20/2024
Ottawa County, Michigan made national news last year after a MAGA take over of its County Commission. Their first major act? To try to defund their public health department. Abdul reflects on the impending risk of this across the country. Then he sits down with Adeline Hambley and Marcia Mansaray, the leaders of the Ottawa County Health Department to learn what happened — and what they did next.

Dumbass politician of the day: Tennessee Republican Scott Cepicky

Headline:  AlterNet, 2/23/2024
State Rep. Scott Cepicky claims vaccines can already be added to foods like lettuce and tomatoes, and to tobacco products, so he has filed legislation to require grocery store items containing vaccines to be labeled.
“University of California Riverside has already perfected the ability to put human vaccines into our lettuce right now,” Rep. Cepicky told his fellow lawmakers Wednesday while discussing his legislation. “Also, tomatoes, has the ability to do that also per UC Berkeley. And then big tobacco, RJ Reynolds and stuff has perfected the ability to put a human vaccine in tobacco products.”
NCRM could find no evidence supporting his claims, although researchers starting in 2021 were studying if it is possible to do so.

Meet Florida surgeon general and Ron DeSantis stooge Joseph Ladapo

HeadlineWashington Post, 2/23.2024
Florida surgeon general Joseph A. Ladapo failed to urge parents to vaccinate their children or keep unvaccinated students home from school as a precaution in a letter to parents at the Fort Lauderdale-area school this week following six confirmed measles cases.
Instead of following what he acknowledged was the “normal” recommendation that parents keep unvaccinated children home for up to 21 days — the incubation period for measles — Ladapo said the state health department “is deferring to parents or guardians to make decisions about school attendance.”

GET ME REWRITE: QAnon Christian nationalism GOP crazy run amok in Alabama

The Alabama Supreme Court on February 16, 2024, decided that cells awaiting implantation for in vitro fertilization are children and that the accidental destruction of such an embryo falls under the state’s Wrongful Death of a Minor Act. In an opinion concurring with the ruling, Chief Justice Tom Parker declared that the people of Alabama have adopted the “theologically based view of the sanctity of life” and said that “human life cannot be wrongfully destroyed without incurring the wrath of a holy God.”
Payton Armstrong of media watchdog Media Matters for America reported today that on the same day the Alabama decision came down, an interview Parker did on the program of a self-proclaimed “prophet” and Q-Anon conspiracy theorist appeared. In it, Parker claimed that “God created government” and called it “heartbreaking” that “we have let it go into the possession of others.”
Parker referred to the “Seven Mountain Mandate,” a theory that appeared in 1975, which claims that Christians must take over the “seven mountains” of U.S. life: religion, family, education, media, entertainment, business…and government.

GET ME REWRITE: Texas judge cements GOP's reputation as unregenerately racist party

Chap B Cain III.  A racist, and a clown, to boot.

Headline:  New York Times, 2.22.2024

The district asked State District Judge Chap B. Cain III to clarify whether the dress code violated a state law called the Texas CROWN Act, as the defendants, Mr. George and his mother, Darresha George, assert. The act, which took effect on Sept. 1, says a school district policy “may not discriminate against a hair texture or protective hairstyle commonly or historically associated with race.” It does not specifically mention hair length.
“The CROWN Act does not render unlawful those portions of the Barbers Hill dress and grooming restrictions limiting male students’ hair length,” Judge Cain said.
“I am not going to tell you that this has been an easy decision to make,” the judge said. Addressing the family, he encouraged them to “go back to the Legislature or go back to the school board because the remedy you seek can be had from either of those bodies.”

The question that needs to be answered, Judge, is why the school district implemented such a racist policy in the first place.

Perhaps demographics had something to do with it.
