Around Town: False front buildings in downtown Middleton

Historical photo, undated, found here.

As described at Old House Web
The vertical extension of the front of a building beyond the roofline createsthe false front style. Almost always used for commercial purposes, falsefront buildings gave an air of dignity to a quickly growing town by providingvisual continuity along the street.

False front architecture is typically associated with the pioneer West.

Promises, promises.  Delagrave said the cost to the taxpayers will be minimal as the county pays this debt through the tax incremental financing districts that have been established for the project. “All of this money is paid back through the TIF, this is not any levy dollars or county operational money,” Delagrave said.

Ford goes big and bold, throws environmental concerns out the window

As you can see from this car porn, Ford executives -- William, Mark, James F, Joseph, Robert, James H -- are very excited about the prospects for the 2020 Lincoln Aviator, a luxury SUV.

As Ford phases out most cars, Chicago plant will produce a new SUV.  (Chicago Tribune, 4/26/2018)
Say goodbye to Taurus, Fiesta, and Focus.  The Torrence Avenue plant, Ford's oldest in continuous operation, will end production of the Taurus and Police Interceptor sedans by March. At the same time, it will begin building a new vehicle — the 2020 Lincoln Aviator SUV — which, along with an all-new Ford Explorer and police version of the SUV, should keep the plant in full swing, Ford executives said Thursday.

Source:  EPA

In its original incarnation (2003-2005), the Lincoln Aviator certainly qualfied as a gas guzzler.

According to Merriam Webster, the first known use of 'gas guzzler' occurred in 1973.

Consistency is the name of the game for the GOP in the PA 6CD.  With little individual variation, Republicans have won the last 4 elections by an average margin of 13.85 percentage points.  Ryan Costello has represented the district since January 2015.

Republicans are afraid, very afraidThe Congressional Leadership Fund’s “day of action” in 17 House districts comes more than a year before the 2018 midterm elections. The effort, part of the super PAC’s plan to spend $100 million to influence House races, underscores the high stakes of upcoming House battles and marks an early push by Ryan’s allies to ensure that individual House races do not become a referendum on President Trump and his performance.
