Dear Donald Trump, Meet the real Tom Scott

He's not the GOP senator from South Carolina.  That's Tim!

This Tom Scott is a musician.  And 'Spindrift' is from his 1974 Tom Cat album with the L.A. Express.

The Wharf adds to DC's restaurant staffing crisis

DC’s Restaurant Staffing Crisis Will Likely Get Worse With the Opening of the Wharf.  (Washingtonian, 9/12/2017)
Ask any DC chef or restaurateur what they’re most worried about right now, and the conversation will inevitably turn to their desperate attempts to find good staff. Sous chefs, managers, servers—across the board, there just aren’t enough experienced people to go around Washington’s booming dining scene.
The problem isn’t new, and it’s not unique to DC. But much of the local restaurant industry is bracing for an even greater pinch with the opening of the Wharf. The $2 billion development will host three hotels, three music venues, 17 retail spots, and more than 20 restaurants, bars, and cafes when it’s complete.

Greetings from the Golden Gate Bridge

From Retiring Guy's postcard collection

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.

In suicide prevention, sometimes all it takes to save a life is a minute of your time.  (South China Morning Post, 9/9/2017)
The winning video features a police negotiator’s work to save lives. For people contemplating suicide, the most critical period is during their last minute of life: if someone could intervene at that point, there is a chance of stopping that person.
Kevin Hines, one of very few people who survived after jumping off San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, shared that, in the last minute as he was wandering along the bridge before he jumped, if someone had showed some concern, he would have changed his mind. Since his miraculous survival, Hines has been championing suicide prevention activities worldwide.

Wisconsin is expected to need 45,000 workers in seven years but it simply lacks the people to fill them., Employers from a broad range of industries are reporting difficulty finding workers — and not only for skilled professionals such as nurses, welders and computer programmers, who require a strong education and training system, but also for workers with a high school diploma and some additional training at restaurants, farms, construction sites, factories, senior care facilities, retailers and other businesses.
