More children earn less than their parents

Fewer Americans are making more than their parents did—especially if they grew up in the middle class.  (Brookings, 7/25/18)
Surprisingly, the bulk of the decline between the 1940 and 1980 cohorts was concentrated toward the top of the income distribution. As Aparna Mathur and Cody Kallen of AEI wrote in “Poor rich kids?”: “[P]erhaps the most puzzling—and least commented upon—finding is the large positive correlation between the parent’s income and the decline in absolute mobility over the years. Put more simply, the richer the parents, the larger has been the decline in mobility for their kids.”

Presently, our two adult children -- birth years:  1987 and 1990 -- earn nowhere near what their parents earned during their fulltime work years.

PolitiFact Wisconsin picks the wrong time to push back against Tony Evers claim

NBC News/Marist Poll: Tony Evers, Tammy Baldwin lead in Wisconsin races.  (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 6/26/2018)
Just 34% of Wisconsin registered voters say Walker deserves re-election, while 61% said someone else deserves a chance in the job.

Malloy and Franco acknowledged their words might be offensive, but Malloy said "if that offends you then don't wear the turban and maybe I'll remember your name."
The pair continued to refer to Grewal as "turban man" throughout the segment.

Iowa 2019 projected job growth: Two-thirds of them will keep workers in poverty

These are the fastest-growing jobs in Iowa — and how much they pay.  (Des Moines Register, 7/26/2018)
I guess we need to ask MIT to define 'living'  (See below.)  A recent study found that a full-time worker in Des Moines needs to earn $15.01 per hour to afford a "modest" two-bedroom apartment.

Wind turbine operators is #1 in percentage growth -- from 320 jobs in 2017 to 360 jobs in 2019, a pickup of 40.

$11.35 x 2080 hours (fulltime employment) = $23,608.  How's that for living?

Men on black: Needing distractions, Freedom Caucus crazies Mark Meadows (current chair) and Jim Jordan (past chair) call for Rod Rosenstein's impeachment

It's been a challenge to identify all 11 signers.  So far Newsweek has done the best legwork, but 3 white guys, I assume, remain unidentified.   Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) won a special election in August 2017 and became a absolute-warrior-in-defense-of-Trump member of the Freedom Caucus crazies.  (Yes, Matt's a white guy, too.)

Nothing is more priceless and more worthy of preservation than the rich array of animal life with which our country has been blessed. It is a many-faceted treasure, of value to scholars, scientists, and nature lovers alike, and it forms a vital part of the heritage we all share as Americans. I congratulate the 93d Congress for taking this important step toward protecting a heritage which we hold in trust to countless future generations of our fellow citizens. Their lives will be richer, and America will be more beautiful in the years ahead, thanks to the measure that I have the pleasure of signing into law today.

Greetings from Trump's America: Butler County, Missouri, where blind loyalty to a sick president trumps jobs

Does this Missouri town blame Trump for job-killing tariff? Hint: You know the answer.  (Kansas City Star, 7/5/2018)
“That’s one of our main factories going down,” said Jimmy Champagne. He delivers the local newspaper, the Daily American Republic, where Mid Continent employees ran an ad begging the president to grant the company a waiver from the killer tariff.
Yet all but one of those I talked to here also agreed that as difficult as the closure would be for Poplar Bluff, population 17,000, down near the Arkansas line, they’d never hold the loss of those jobs against Trump.
