Roy Graber reports:
Avian flu in Illinois
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reported that on March 6, the presence of HPAI was confirmed in a flock of 7,900 meat turkeys.
This is the third Illinois turkey flock to be struck by the virus in less than a week. On March 5, HPAI was confirmed in another Lawrence County flock and on March 3, the presence of the virus was confirmed in Crawford County.
Before those three cases, Illinois had gone nearly one year without any instances of HPAI in a commercial poultry flock.
Avian flu in Pennsylvania
According to APHIS, a commercial laying hen flock in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, was hit by the virus. The flock included 175,000 hens, and the situation was confirmed on March 6.
This marks the 15th commercial poultry flock to be hit by HPAI so far in 2026. All but one of those have been in Lancaster County, with the other being a flock of 70,000 laying hens in Dauphin County.  [emphasis added]
