Donald Trump can’t be bothered to hide his racism anymore (White Afrikaners edition)

HeadlineNew York Times, 5/9/2025

Zolan Kanno-Youngs, Hamed Aleaziz, John Eligon and Zimasa Matiwane report:
Although the president halted virtually all other refugee admissions shortly after he took office in January, his administration hastily put together a program to allow in white South Africans, who he claims have been the victims of racial persecution in their home country.
The administration plans to send government officials to Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia for an event marking the arrival of the South Africans, who belong to the white minority Afrikaner ethnic group, according to a memo from the Department of Health and Human Services.
A top State Department official told South African officials on Friday that the United States planned to transport 54 Afrikaners to the United States on a charter flight scheduled to leave Johannesburg on Sunday, according to a person briefed on the call, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share details of the private conversation.

The Clown Show Circus that is the Colorado Republican Party (Rebecca Keltie edition)

HeadlineColorado Times Reporter, 5/6/2025

As the legislative session comes down to its final days, one freshman Republican has harsh words for her Democratic colleagues. State Rep. Rebecca Keltie (R-Colorado Springs) in a Sunday evening interview on a libertarian podcast called her fellow legislators evil, soulless, and corrupt, before saying she thinks Colorado needs to be burned to the ground so Republicans can rise from the ashes.
“I’ve never seen a group of people that are so … for lack of a better term, evil. I feel it when I come in there. I pray as soon as I enter the building. As soon as I enter that room, I pray. While I’m in there, I’m praying. I’ve never prayed so much in my life. … I went in there with an open mind of respect,” said Keltie. “I have lost — for almost all of them, except for maybe a few — all respect. Like, I can’t even look at them in the face. It’s very difficult for me to think that, you know, they even have a soul. I’m not even sure they even have a soul, and their eyes are just … I don’t know.

Speaking of evil....

Wisconsin GOP leadership: No weed for you!

HeadlineFilter, 5/9/2025

Ben Adlin reports:
The actions are a repeat of 2023, when GOP members of the same committee removed proposals to legalize marijuana for adult and medical use from the governor’s biennial executive budget at that time.
A press release from the governor’s office about the May 8 committee changes says the legalization proposal would have regulated marijuana “much like the state already does with alcohol, which would help Wisconsin compete with other states for talented workers and have more resources to invest in critical state priorities.” \
The reform is “a proposal that over 60 percent of Wisconsinites support,” the release notes, pointing to a poll from February.

The Dane County Board of Supervisors on April 10 approved the conversion of a west side Madison strip mall into an apartment complex with over 75 affordable housing units and 25 units for those experiencing homelessness, WMTV15 reports.
The 124-unit facility will replace the White House Shoppes at 6706-6714 Odana Road. The proposal was awarded a loan from the city of Madison’s affordable housing fund in 2022, which allocated $2 million for developers to build the complex.
The project is set to be completed by summer 2026 and designed to match affordability for 99 years. The city is supporting projects like these with the goal of creating 15,000 new homes in Madison by 2030 to meet steadily increasing demand.

MISCREANT PREACHERS: Sexual battery in the Name of the Lord (#125 in a series)

Photo and headline:  WFTV, 5/8/2025
A Sanford pastor had been arrested following allegations of inappropriate conduct, and sexually touching and assaulting two underage females.
Yersson David Solarte Basto, 34, is charged with sexual battery and lewd and lascivious molestation. On April 10. police received a report of an inappropriate relationship between Solarte and two juvenile victims.
According to a news release, investigators learned that Solarte “did create or attempt to create an inappropriate relationship with the victims, did inappropriately touch the victims, and sexually assaulted one of the victims.”
During the investigation, it was revealed that the incidents occurred at Ipul Pentecostal Church in Sanford, where Solarte was the Pastor and both victims were members.
Police said that following the allegations, Solarte was removed from his role as Pastor and a warrant was issued for Solarte’s arrest.

"Again I saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun. And behold, the tears of the oppressed, and they had no one to comfort them! On the side of their oppressors there was power, and there was no one to comfort them.."  (Ecclesiastes 4:1)

Just 1280 days to go until 2028 Election: More inanity from S. E. Cupp

Headline:
Trib Live 5/9/2025
If Dems want to learn from past mistakes, there are a bunch they can choose from. But most urgently, they can’t wait again. They need to start running. Now
The 2028 election may seem far away, but it isn’t. Voters need time to get to know their candidates, and the party needs a long runway to condition an environment for newcomers.

Cupper, there's still 541 days until the 2026 midterm elections.  It's too early for voters to care who's running in 2028.

Donald Trump can't be bothered to hide his racism anymore (Dr. Carla Hayden Library of Congress edition)

Headline:  AlterNet,

Jake Johnson reports for Common Dreams:
According to her bio, Hayden was the first woman and first African American to lead the national library, which is the largest in the world and home to more than 178 million items—from books to photographs to primary historical documents.
Hayden was also the first professional librarian appointed to the role in decades, The Washington Post noted. She was nominated for a 10-year term in 2016 by then-President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate with bipartisan support.
Her sudden termination was met with fury, with education advocates, civil rights campaigners, and Democratic lawmakers condemning the firing as yet another Trump administration attack on a cherished public institution.
"This is an absolute disgrace," civil rights attorney ‪Sherrilyn Ifill wrote in response to the news. "Dr. Hayden is a consummate professional, career librarian, and public servant. I cannot think of anyone in the Trump administration who is fit to address the Librarian of Congress in this way."

the endless parade
of clown show zombies
 Starring "reckless maniac"
Jeanine Pirro

Heather Cox Richardson reports:
To replace Martin, Trump has tapped Fox News Channel host Jeanine Pirro, who is passionately loyal to him. He noted among her qualifications that she “hosted her own Fox News Show, Justice with Judge Jeanine, for ten years, and is currently Co-Host of The Five, one of the Highest Rated Shows on Television.”
Matt Gertz of Media Matters for America recalls that the Fox News Channel took Pirro off the air after the 2020 election because of her conspiracy-theory-filled rants. In emails turned up in the defamation suit against the Fox News Channel for pushing the lie that voting machines had tainted the election results, her executive producer called her “nuts” and a “reckless maniac,” who “should never be on live television.” That lawsuit cost the Fox News Channel $787 million.
