Roy Graber reports:
Five more commercial poultry flocks in Indiana have been struck by highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).
According to information from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) the largest of those was a commercial table egg pullet flock in Elkhart County. There were 91,200 birds involved in that situation, which was confirmed on April 3.
Also in Elkhart County, HPAI was confirmed in a flock of 4,800 commercial meat ducks on April 3, and on March 31, the presence of the virus was confirmed in a flock of 8,500 ducks
Two commercial duck flocks were also recently struck by HPAI in LaGrange County. On March 31, the presence of the virus was confirmed in a flock of 5,300 ducks, and on April 3, a flock of 15,300 ducks became a confirmed case.
Indiana has now had 39 confirmed cases of HPAI to date in 2026 – more than any other state. [emphasis added]
