O’Connor, a Republican, served two terms in the 60th District, which includes Fond du Lac, North Fond du Lac, Empire and Friendship.
At 72, he’s the oldest current member of the state Assembly, bringing experience as a retired bank CEO and former real estate developer.
“Serving as your Assembly Representative has been more rewarding than I could have imagined,” O’Connor said in his announcement. “I want to express my gratitude to the voters who made this journey possible. I am deeply grateful for the faith and trust you placed in me.”
O’Connor cited tax cuts and actions against sex trafficking among his accomplishments in office. He was a leading sponsor of over 50 bills in the last session, including proclaiming January as Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Month in Wisconsin, sealing the identity of child witnesses and victims of human trafficking, and providing a penalty for election fraud using an absentee ballot.
It's a safely Republican district. (Prior to redistricting, which went into effect prior to the 2024 election, O'Connor served in the 52nd District, which included all of the city of Fond du Lac. It's used here to provide a more instructive comparison.)
