With the referendum rejected, the Board will take the next steps for dissolution of the district by the start of the 2027-28 school year, pending state approval. Under dissolution, all district students, properties, assets and liabilities will be assigned by the state to neighboring school districts. For property owners, dissolution means residents will start paying school taxes to the district to which they are assigned.
Bugancki said the Hustisford School Board is in the “precarious position” of planning to provide a high quality educational experience for all students, without the necessary financial resources to offer an educational experience similar to this school year.
District leaders have been meeting with state and local officials, state and district lawyers and other experts in school finance and reorganization to plan for referendum passage or failure. One option being explored is if HSD students could be educated in a neighboring district through tuition agreements for the next year during dissolution efforts.
