Riley Yates reports on all the hubbub:
It has gotten personal: [Mayor Daniel] Rodrick has called for council members and Municipal Utility Authority commissioners to lose the health insurance they receive as a perk to their part-time posts. Council members have countered by questioning his use of a township-owned car to commute to and from his day job as an assistant school principal in Irvington, 65 miles away.
Those tensions were on full display during the council’s March 11 meeting, when Rodrick and the board’s majority traded insults over an affordable housing proposal pushed by the mayor.
Throughout the meeting chaired by Ciccozzi, Rodrick repeatedly interrupted and talked over his critics, throwing in asides like “clown,” “coward” and “crazy lunatic,” and vowing they’d face political repercussions.
Opponents of the mayor yelled at him from the audience, Councilman Thomas Nivison labeled him a “despicable sociopath” and residents walked up to the microphone out of turn to loudly tell Rodrick to “shut up” with his running commentary.
