Keeping tabs on authors in LINKcat: Herbert Gold

Born in Ohio, Mr. Gold brought a Midwestern skepticism and a deflating sense of humor to his tales of ordinary men and women trying to gain a foothold in the slippery terrain of romance — or, like him, struggling to connect the world of their Jewish immigrant parents with the realities of American life.
He was hard to categorize, and perhaps for that reason never had the kind of celebrated career that peers like Norman Mailer and Philip Roth enjoyed and that his early books seemed to augur. “Herbert Gold always seems on the verge of writing the big one,” Newsweek wrote in 1967.
But if the big one never arrived, Mr. Gold did produce, with regularity, a distinctive brand of fiction and journalism.

The council unanimously approved the site’s zoning and a certified survey map for the property. The development’s four separate but connected buildings include:
An eight-story brick- and metal-paneled building facing Broom Street.
A 14-story building on Johnson Street — the development’s largest — with a rooftop and amenity deck.
A slender, 14-story building wedged between the Johnson and Broom Street buildings that also is topped with a rooftop and amenity deck.
A 15-story building on the southwestern end of the block that would be connected to the larger 14-story building via a glass skywalk on the second floor.

In an email sent to GOP supporters on Nov. 22, former state Rep. Ron Hanks, who now serves as the party’s Ballot and Election Security Committee chairman, wrote that certifying the election would imply the party’s “acceptance of a disastrous process and declare we acquiesced to their systemic fraud and personal corruption.”
Coloradans voted on two statewide propositions and various local issues in the Nov. 7 election.
County canvass boards are made up of members from both parties and look at data to check for accuracy of election night results. They are in charge of certifying the official abstract of votes by reconciling the number of ballots counted with the number of ballots cast, and the number of ballots cast with the number of people who voted. It is typically a non-controversial and simple process.
