MISCREANT PREACHERS: Neglecting to report child abuse in the Name of the Lord

The head pastor of Ignite Life Center (ILC) Church, Mark Vega, 55, doesn’t appear to be sweating his recent felony arrest on social media. 

Nearly two weeks ago, Vega was formally charged with one count of failing to report suspected child abuse after he failed to report several child sexual abuse incidents that occurred at ILC. 

Vega, who was charged by the Gainesville Police Department (GPD), held a position as chaplain at the police agency during the same time he failed to report sexual abuse incidents at ILC. Vega was arrested Monday afternoon after turning himself in. The warrant was issued on Thursday. 

Vega was released from jail roughly three hours after his arrest after posting a $50,000 bond. Vega avoided attending a first appearance hearing because he had a bond set on his warrant.

John Tunison reports:

Commissioners on Tuesday, Nov. 25 voted against forming a special committee to investigate the complaint. Most said they saw no benefit in spending resources on the effort. 

“It is time to move on from the errors of the past board, including Commissioner Moss,” Board of Commissioners Chair John Teeples said. “We have nothing more to learn or gain,” Teeples said.  

He said the board should focus on issues important to the public, like solving the county’s groundwater shortages, as well as housing and transportation issues.

The accusations against Moss, who chaired the board in 2023 and 2024 after winning his seat in 2022 as part of the highly conservative Ottawa Impact political platform, centered around a December 10, 2024, closed session.

Mount Pleasant Village President David DeGroot said village officials “cannot comment on the specifics of Foxconn’s plans, but we look forward to working with the company as they proceed.” 

“We are excited for Foxconn’s plan to create more jobs and expand its 21st century manufacturing operations,” DeGroot said. 

WEDC said Foxconn is expanding its manufacturing footprint in Wisconsin “to meet rising demand from U.S. customers.” Jerry Hsiao, chief product officer for Foxconn, said in the release that Wisconsin accounts for almost a fourth of the company’s workforce in the U.S., and this second-stage project will double that presence in Wisconsin by the end of the decade.
