A priest at a church in West Memphis, Arkansas has been arrested in connection with a case involving two cats who police say appeared to have been drowned, city officials said Tuesday.  

Officials did not name the priest, but Charles Thessing, 63 is listed in the Crittenden County jail log, charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. Thessing was arrested Tuesday.

On Feb. 7, West Memphis Animal Control received a video regarding the incident. West Memphis Police obtained a search warrant for Thessing’s property and found evidence of animal cruelty. 

Police found animal traps and two dead cats that appeared to have been drowned in a tank of water on the property.
