Renovations have started on the former AMC movie theater that closed at the outdoor mall in 2022. The 25,000-square-foot theater space will be used for more stores and restaurants, and renovations are expected to be finished in the fall, according to contractor Vogel Bros. Building Co., of Madison.
WS Development, the Massachusetts company that owns and manages the Hilldale Shopping Center, also partnered with Eppstein Uhen Architects as the designer of the project.
Vogel Bros. spokeswoman Katie Kulchytskyy said design details for the interior and exterior of the building are still being finalized, as well as the number of tenants that will occupy the former theater space.
According to Merriam-Webster, the first-known use of 'multiplex' as a noun (a complex that houses several movie theaters), occurred in 1982.
