Headline and subhead:  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 9/11/2026

Valerie Yurk and Molly Beck report:
U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, a Republican who represents the 7th Congressional District and a candidate for governor, said he supports the idea.
In a statement to the Journal Sentinel, Tiffany said, “We have seen enormous amounts of taxpayer money wasted or lost to fraud, so when there is an opportunity to put money back into the hands of hardworking Americans, I will support it.”

How unhinged is Donald Trump? He wants to make the midterms all about him while his approval rating is 26 points underwater. And sinking.

David Smith reports:
With his approval rating at a historic low, Donald Trump has brought down the curtain on the Republicans’ first ever midterm convention by pleading with supporters to do him “the biggest favour” and “pretend” they are voting for him in November’s US elections.
The president is facing a growing backlash over rising prices and the war in Iran. Sweeping losses for the Republican party could effectively turn Trump into a lame duck for his final two years in the White House.
Sensing political danger, Trump wrapped up the novel two-day event in Dallas, Texas, on Thursday with a pitch that critics are likely to say smacked of desperation: “You gotta do me the biggest favour you’ve ever done me. You’ve gotta do this for me. You’ve got to pretend I’m on the ticket. I’m on the ticket! I’m on the ticket! He’s on the ticket! Pretend I’m on the ticket because this is going to turn out to be one of the most important elections.”  [emphasis added]

Yes indeed you R, Donnie!

Unhinged Donald Trump suffers from a crippling case of Biden Derangement Syndrome

Cameron Adams reports:
ABC reporter Rachel Scott asked Trump about the motivation behind his $5,000 promise to lure voters to the polls, noting that America is already $40 trillion in debt.
“If your economic policies are working, why do you need an incentive for people to turn out to vote?” Scott asked Trump outside of Air Force One with a gaggle of other, mostly male, reporters.
The president said, “I didn’t do it for turning out to vote, I’m doing it as a reward for people having to put up with five years and four years of a horrible situation caused by Biden.”
Continuing to blame the former president for “just a horrible thing Biden did to our country,” Trump repeated that the $5,000 was “almost a reward for the people having to put up with Biden’s policy.”  [emphasis added]
Trump then turned to another reporter. When Scott attempted to ask a follow-up question, a normal journalistic practice, the president pointed at her and snapped, “Not you!”

Donald Trump claims Germany's Saxony-Anhalt as his own

Headline:  Axios, 9/11/2026

Zach Beauchamp reports:
“The national debate is now one of crisis, focusing attention on the success of the AfD and the alleged reasons for it,” said Cas Mudde, an expert on European far-right parties at the University of Georgia.
This, it appears, is the outcome the Trump administration has long desired. The White House has, both in public and in private, lent support to AfD. While he was in the administration last year, Elon Musk spoke at an AfD rally. Prior to the Trump administration, the US had never interfered so blatantly in a European ally’s partisan politics.
As a result, the AfD’s rise is not only a critical political story in Europe, but a revealing one in America as well. In helping boost a truly extreme faction abroad, Trump is pursuing a foreign policy very different from the “America First” slogan it touts at home. The White House is dreaming of a world dominated by the far right — even if that comes at the expense of America’s geostrategic interests.  [emphasis added]

Keeping tabs on authors in LINKcat: Robin Morgan

New York Times, 9/3/2026

Rebecca Chase reports:
From the front lines of a much-splintered feminist movement, Ms. Morgan gave voice to women as a poet, journalist, novelist, memoirist, agitator and iconoclast. She came of age in the civil rights and anti-Vietnam War movements, but along with other young women of the new left, she found those movements dominated by men, and, in particular, men who wanted to keep women as second-class citizens.
“We were tired of making coffee and not policy,” she told The Guardian in 2006.
Ms. Morgan caused shock waves in 1970 when she published an essay in Rat, an underground newspaper. The article, titled “Goodbye to All That,” named specific men as sexists. “Goodbye to Hip Culture and the so-called Sexual Revolution,” she wrote, stating that the murderous Charles Manson was “only the logical extreme of the normal American male’s fantasy.” The piece became an instant classic of second-wave feminism; it also brought her death threats from counterculture activists. “They called it ‘the shot heard round the Left,’” she told The New Yorker in 2008.
