Headline and Nazi-like uniforms: Alternet America, 9/8/2026

Trump shared an image on Sunday of proposed “next generation” Space Force uniforms in dark gray with black jackboots. The image was accompanied by text stating the design was inspired by the uniforms in the 1997 film Starship Troopers.
Paul Verhoeven, who grew up in Nazi-occupied Netherlands, directed the film. Verhoeven has repeatedly and explicitly stated that the military uniforms in the film were designed to evoke the Third Reich and that the whole film is a satire of fascism and militarism.
Critics were quick to point out the similarity to Nazi-era military garb and the Imperial officer uniforms from Star Wars.
Conservative commentator Jonah Goldberg said he did not know what would be worse: whether the administration understood the film’s point or whether they did not.
