Muhammad Yasin Gungor reports:
Uruguay declared a nationwide health emergency on Friday after the discovery of the highly pathogenic H5 avian influenza in backyard poultry, according to officials.
The Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries Ministry, through the General Directorate of Livestock Services, confirmed the outbreak in Colonia, a department in the southwest. That was after a health concern triggered by bird mortality. Although an initial rapid test yielded negative results, subsequent official laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of the virus.
