There are fears mass bird deaths in south-west Victoria are linked to the deadly H5N1 virus, and authorities are struggling to keep up with the carnage. \ 

Locals in the Portland region have reported hundreds of birds found dead or dying since Sunday and want the government to strengthen its response immediately. 

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action has been contacted for comment.
