The latest cases bring the total number of outbreak cases to 15 confirmed and six probable, but health officials suspect more people may be infected. Two cases of measles were identified earlier this week in Iowa and Lafayette counties. Both were believed to have been exposed in Wisconsin.
"The rapid emergence of these cases, particularly among people who have not traveled outside of Wisconsin, indicates that there is active local transmission," Ryan Westergaard, chief medical officer and state epidemiologist for communicable diseases for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, said in a call with reporters.
