Flushed and spineless Louisiana GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy MD arrives late to the party (RFJ Jr. vaccine schedule edition)

 

Dr. Bill is chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP). He voted to confirm RFKjr as secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He values his personal political survival over public health.

 

On February 21, 2021, Cassidy voted to convict Trump on a single article of impeachment, and he's been groveling for an endorsement at the altar of Trump every since.  

It was NEVER going to happen, Dr. Swirl.

Cassidy, an ardent supporter of vaccines, has been careful in his criticisms of vaccine-skeptic Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who he is largely responsible for getting confirmed. [emphasis added]

He has raised questions about Kennedy’s anti-vax policies but mostly focused on complex scientific disagreements. Though he did not name Kennedy directly, Cassidy’s colloquy on Denmark Tuesday was his most forceful since President Donald Trump endorsed U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow, R-Start, instead of him, in the November congressional elections. 

His criticism may be too little, too late politically and too late to stop the vaccine rollback.
