Alberta reports first case of bird flu since May 2026

The CFIA described the affected flock as commercial poultry located in the county of Vermilion River but did not specify the species or number of birds involved. 

Alberta’s last confirmed HPAI case was on May 16, when a flock in Starland County, Alberta, tested positive. 

Manitoba province has had six commercial poultry flocks infected so far in September, each in a different rural municipality. Cases were confirmed in Rhineland, Rockwood, Cartier, Woodlands, Bifrost-Riverton and De Salaberry. Prior to September, Manitoba did not have any positive detections of HPAI in commercial poultry in 2026.
