Australia bird flu news: So far Tasmania has reported 45 events

As of 25 Sep 2026, 45 positive H5 bird flu events have been recorded in Tasmania since the surveillance reporting period opened on 19 Jun 2026, with seven new events confirmed between 15 Sep and 23 Sep 2026. 

Affected locations span multiple distinct coastal and inland zones: Strahan (West Coast), Penguin (North West Coast), Loccota (Flinders Island), Dover and Port Huon (south), and Douglas River and Orford (east coast), indicating geographically dispersed detections across the island state. 

A total of 537 tests have been conducted and 3808 reports submitted to NRE Tasmania during the reporting period, reflecting an active community surveillance and reporting system.
