Minnesota and Manitoba reports new cases of bird flu

Avian influenza in Minnesota 

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reported HPAI in two commercial meat turkey flocks in Minnesota. Both flocks are in Stearns County. The first case was confirmed on Sept. 22 and affected 20,500 turkeys. HPAI was confirmed in the second flock, which had 31,000 turkeys, the following day. 

Minnesota has had seven commercial poultry flocks affected by HPAI so far in September and 16 in 2026, according to data from APHIS. A

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) reported two more HPAI cases in the province on Sept. 22. The CFIA described both affected flocks as commercial poultry but did not specify the species or number of birds involved. 

One of the flocks is in the rural municipality of Woodlands, and the other is in Bifrost-Riverton. 

Manitoba has had six commercial poultry flocks infected so far in September, each in a different rural municipality.
