Not doing his job: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is trashing the mission of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (influenza mRNA vaccines edition)

Abstract from Nature:
The global spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) viruses poses a serious pandemic threat. While sustained human-to-human transmission has not occurred, widespread circulation in birds, increased detection in mammals, and occasional human spillovers underscore the need for safe and effective vaccines. We evaluated an H5 mRNA vaccine candidate in ferrets using recent clade 2.3.4.4b A(H5N1) human isolates. Vaccination elicited strong neutralizing antibodies, conferred robust protection against lethal challenge, and significantly reduced viral titers. In a direct contact transmission model, mRNA vaccination decreased virus shedding in inoculated ferrets and reduced onward transmission; it also protected vaccinated contact ferrets from infection following exposure to virus-shedding, unvaccinated ferrets. Additionally, sera from vaccinated animals cross-neutralized clade 2.3.2.1e human viruses to varying degrees, depending on the strain. These findings demonstrate that H5 mRNA vaccination not only protects against disease but also reduces transmission, supporting its potential as a key tool for pandemic preparedness.

Avian flu detected in wild birds all over Michigan

Map:  USDA
Headline:  The Alpena News, 11/29/2025
The DNR has reported more HPAI detections in 2025 than were found in 2024. In total, 130 wild birds have tested positive for HPAI in Michigan, with most detections in Canada geese, bald eagles, and red-tailed hawks. Wildlife detections and pending cases are posted at michigan.gov/dnr/managing-resources/wildlife/wildlife-disease.
According to the DNR, the disease has been found in every Michigan watershed, indicating that it has occurred throughout the state. HPAI has been detected in surrounding states and other parts of the county as well.

4 Ontario poultry farms hit by avian flu in past 2 weeks

Headline:  CBC, 11/24/2025

The Canadian Food Transportation Agency (CFIA) says it has identified additional outbreaks of avian influenza in the Strathroy, Ont. area, bringing the total number declared in the last two weeks to four.
The most recent outbreak was uncovered Friday after the highly pathogenic avian influenza, or HPAI, was confirmed at a commercial poultry farm in the region, the CFIA said on its website.
It's not clear yet how many birds may be affected by this most recent outbreak.
It comes two days after an outbreak was declared on Wednesday, affecting at least 15,469 turkeys, the CFIA said in a statement.
