Yakima County Washington reports 2nd case of bird flu in human

A second Yakima County resident has tested positive for avian influenza, also known as bird flu, according to the Yakima Health District. 

Officials say that the individual was exposed to the virus at a dairy with infected cattle. 

The individual is currently in the hospital with severe illness, and the Health District says that they have underlying health conditions.  [emphasis added]

Officials say that the risk to the public remains low, with dairy workers and others with prolonged contact with infected animals at the highest risk.
