Roy Graber reports in 12/5/2025 WATT Poultry article:
Tyson Foods said unless a sensible solution is reached in a longstanding lawsuit filed by the State of Oklahoma, it will phase out grower operations in the Illinois River Watershed (IRW), which includes portions of northeastern Oklahoma and northwestern Arkansas.
The lawsuit, which dates back two decades, alleges that Tyson and other poultry companies that operate within the watershed have caused high phosphorus levels. It was initially filed by then-Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson. No resolution to the suit has ever been reached, and the state’s current attorney general, Genter Drummond, continues to pursue holding the poultry companies accountable.
In addition to Tyson Foods and its Cobb-Vantress subsidiary, other companies that are defendants in the lawsuit are Cal-Maine Foods, Cargill, George’s, Peterson Farms and Simmons Foods.
