The roadside park has becom a defniite feature of the American highway. Here the tourists -- particularly in family groups -- can stop to eat a picnic lunch at one of the tables, let the dog find a tree, and give the children a chance to play about and stretch their legs, while the car cools off in the shade.
This is now.
Or not. The roadside park was likely abandoned decades ago. The author mentions that it is only a short distance from the overpass at which the preceding picture was taken, i.e., "Kansas Corn".
